Neo-Modern new build in desirable Tribeca location

The slender glass-and-steel tower, finished in 2012, is a departure from Tribeca’s more traditional 19th-century cast iron facades, and in fact stands right next to a designated cast iron landmark built by architect John B. Snook in 1872 for merchant Stephen Storm. In order to achieve their vision, SLCE Architects designed Reade57’s 20 stories around its historic neighbor at 55 Reade Street, including setback terraces on the higher floors. Noah Kollar, a real estate agent with Serhant who has sold in the building, shares how the area also contained many office buildings from the 1950s at the time Reade57 was built. “This was a ground-up new build in a Neo-Modern style that added to the architectural landscape… It was a statement piece when it was built.” Yet it still attracts everyone from entry-level buyers to celebrities seeking an intimate atmosphere: James Johnson, a star NBA player with the Indiana Pacers, is known to have recently lived here. Kollar notes that original owners still possess 47 percent of units, and new buyers continue to be drawn to its location, which isn’t as heavily touristed as other parts of the neighborhood.

Top-end finishes and many units feature outdoor space

It’s fair to say that many units have been renovated since 2012, but some original features include open layouts with teak floors and full-sized windows with nine-foot ceilings. Kitchens were designed with high-end features like Caesarstone counters, custom white lacquer cabinets and Miele, Bosch and Liebherr appliances. Microwaves, dishwashers, central air and washers and dryers are additional perks. Original bathrooms contained walnut vanities, dark granite counters and walk-in showers. Many units have terraces facing either Reade Street or Broadway; views vary, but span the Hudson River, East River and City Hall. Studios start at 713 square feet; a recent one sold for about $1 million. Two bedrooms comprise most of the inventory, with a handful of three. Of Reade57’s 84 units, at least two have been combined to create a four-bedroom. Units with 3,000 square feet have sold for $6 million.

Inviting fitness center and landscaped courtyard

A full-time door attendant greets residents as they pass under the dramatic glass-and-steel canopy into a contemporary, marble-accented lobby complete with a marble front desk. The marble continues into the mail room and elevators. Other amenities are in keeping for a building of this size. The second-floor gym is adequately equipped with cardio equipment and weights, and a former resident’s lounge on the other side has since been transformed into a yoga/fitness studio. The entire floor is flooded with natural light thanks to expansive windows on one end and a glass wall separating the fitness area from the outdoor courtyard on the other. The small, landscaped space beckons with tables and chairs and is conducive for working from home. This floor also contains a small laundry room for those needing to wash larger items. A live-in super and storage options (including bike storage and a cold room for groceries) round out the amenities.

Trendy Tribeca area with necessities and leisure within easy reach

Reade57 is right in trendy Tribeca, where spendy boutiques and buzzy restaurants are within walking distance of government buildings and courthouses. The condo is mere blocks from The Odeon, a pivotal neighborhood icon that contains decades of juicy stories within its walls, which is right by Atera, a neighborhood destination for its two Michelin stars where diners indulge in a New American tasting menu in an intimate space. Then there’s Serafina at the end of the block, a local Italian chain recognizable by its bright yellow awning. Beyond restaurants, the original location of AIRE Ancient Baths, a candlelit pool circuit that attracts locals and celebrities alike, is also close, with City Hall Park right around the corner for a bit of greenery amongst all the concrete. Hudson River Park is a few blocks west for outdoor exercise and waterfront views. For necessities, Whole Foods is an easy walk, or groceries can be delivered. It’s also hard to miss the number of businesses on the block catering to children, including Reade Street Prep preschool, Kiddie Academy of Tribeca and My Little School. And while Tribeca is never quiet, it really comes alive during the annual Tribeca Film Festival, co-founded by Robert De Niro, which attracts more than 100,000 people to its independent film premieres.

Nine subway lines within a five-minute walk

Kollar cites a client who bought in the building even though he worked uptown, thanks to nine train lines within a five-minute walk from Reade57. There’s the 1, 2, 3 and A, C lines at Chambers Street, R and W trains at City Hall and 2 and 3 trains at Park Place. Buses navigate up and down Church Street and Broadway and crosstown along Chambers Street.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
