A beige-brick tower in Jamaica Estates packed with amenities
Occupying a leafy pocket of eastern Queens, the neighborhood of Jamaica Estates is prized for mixing suburban-style dwellings with the conveniences of urban life. Located at the end of the F train, the walkable enclave also houses several prominent apartment buildings, among them the Camelot, a 15-story behemoth containing 345 residences. Despite its substantial size, the full-service co-op development has an enduring appeal for many residents. “Right off the bat, we had offers from people within building, which is a great thing to experience,” says Etan Hakimi, managing director at Mitra Hakimi Realty Group, recalling the process of selling two units at the property. “People love the Camelot because the location is great, and you have easy access to Manhattan for anyone who works there or wants to be closer to city.” Clad in sand-colored brick, the slab-like tower was completed in 1969 and is defined by a network of balconies, which means that most of the units come with private outdoor space. An indoor pool, sauna and fitness center are just a few of the on-site perks. “We have a lot of amenities that many buildings in Queens don’t offer,” adds Hakimi. Compared with the rest of New York City, the units are also priced lower than average. “You get a good bang for your buck when you buy a unit here.”
Studios to three-bedroom units starting at $175,000
The co-op residences at the Camelot range from studios to three-bedroom dwellings, with little uniformity between them, as some have been renovated and others need repairs. A studio with an updated kitchen featuring subway tile backsplash, a Frigidaire dishwasher and a Whirlpool range sold in July 2024 for $175,000, while a three-bedroom dwelling with patchy wood flooring listed in May 2024 for $460,000. “The monthly maintenance includes air conditioning, heat, water and gas, while the shareholder was responsible for electric,” explains Hakimi. “That’s a lot to get included — I’ve only seen that at the Camelot.” As such, the monthly fee ranges from $564 for a studio to $1,741 for a three-bedroom. Special policies include subletting permitted only after the purchaser has lived in unit for three years, also subject to board approval.
Perks include an indoor pool, sauna, gym and parking garage
The Camelot’s amenity package begins before entering the building, with a large porte-cochere installed at the entrance that protects anyone getting picked up or dropped off from rain and snow. Accessed through a revolving door, the light-filled lobby is paved with glossy stone tiles and furnished with a pair of seating areas plus a wrap-around desk where the full-time doorman is stationed. Connected to this space is a package delivery area equipped with Luxer One lockers, which keeps items safe prior to retrieval. Residents also have access to the ground floor’s indoor pool, which features a Brutalist-style ceiling grid and rows of potted plants that lend a tropical feeling to the glass-walled space. An on-site fitness center, painted in sunny shades of yellow and orange, includes cardio and weight-lifting equipment, while a wood-paneled dry sauna offers a chance to unwind after a workout.
The basement contains a shared laundry room, although some units are equipped with their own washing machines and dryers. Residents with a vehicle have the option of an on-site garage or surface parking, available for a fee, which comes in handy since street parking in the area can be a challenge. The building — which is serviced by two elevators — also offers storage lockers and a bike room.
Easy access to grocery stores and nearby Cunningham Park
A primarily residential section of Queens, Jamaica Estates draws people with its quiet, tree-lined streets and handsome stock of single-family homes. This low-lying character makes the Camelot one of the tallest buildings in the area, with the higher-floor apartments offering views of the Manhattan skyline. Its location near Jamaica proper means that residents are not far from a transit hub that makes the rest of New York City easily accessible. For recreational spaces, the diminutive Major Mark Park is across the street and features a bronze statue of an angel encircled by park benches, while Captain Tilly Park is a 15-minute walk away and is organized around a natural pond known to attract waterfowl. Additionally, the sprawling Cunningham Park is located nearby and provides neighborhood residents with 350 acres of green space and a slew of recreational facilities including tennis courts, baseball fields and playgrounds.
Set directly on Hillside Avenue, the Camelot is just steps from a major grocery store, Ideal Food Basket, and two blocks from the smaller Hillside Farmer Market. The street also houses to a variety of casual places to eat — among them Para Ti Colombia Con Sabor, Halalbee’s and Benny’s Pizza — interspersed between beauty salons, check cashing storefronts and convenience stores. A CVS and Walgreens are both within blocks, as are numerous independent pharmacies. Directly across the street from the Camelot is the Mary Louis Academy, an all-girls Catholic high school, as well as Thomas Berry Place, a 10-acre campus offering spiritual retreats.
The area is serviced by the F train and numerous bus lines
Despite the Camelot being nestled deep in Queens, the F train stops at 179th Street and Hillside Avenue, a short walk to the building. This being the end of the line, the train travels through Queens via Long Island City and into Manhattan, ultimately ending in South Brooklyn at Coney Island. In addition, Hillside Avenue is a major thoroughfare for bus routes, among them the X68, Q17, Q43, Q36, Q43, and the Q110, several of which take riders into Jamaica, where the E, J and Z subway lines makes stops along with the Long Island Rail Road and AirTrain to JFK Airport. For those with a car, the Camelot is equipped with a garage for residents and is located near the major thoroughfare of Grand Central Parkway.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
