Standing tall in downtown Flushing just one block from bustling Main Street is The Stanton, with 351 condominiums units across 17 floors. Built in 1974, The Stanton is one of the tallest buildings in Flushing. Designed by Philip Birnbaum, it pays homage to the 1970s era with garden terraces and a light brown brick exterior.
Originally built as rental apartments, the highrise was converted to condominiums in 1985 with one and two-bedroom units for sale.
Most notable at The Stanton are the views from the building from myriad angles depending on the residence's location. There are views of the Manhattan skyline, downtown Flushing, and the RFK Bridge, formerly known as the Triborough Bridge.
Pricing for the residences will vary based on upgrades. A sampling of prices includes a 954 -square-foot, two bedroom, two-bathroom residence on the market in February 2025 at $828,000, a 600-square-foot, one-bedroom, one-bathroom unit at $590,000 and a 1,484-square-foot, two-bedroom, three-bathroom home was under contract for $1.19 million in February 2025.
Contemporary style
Modern glass double doors open to a contemporary lobby with recessed lighting, inlaid marble flooring and dark wood paneling. There is a door attendant at the entrance 24 hours a day. Three elevators are available in the building with an on-site laundromat. Indoor parking is available with a waitlist. There is a rooftop garden for residents to relax.
The building is pet-friendly, allowing both dogs and cats.
Panoramic views from the residences
When it comes to the interior of the units, some of the 1970s elements remain. That means clean lines, without the ornate details of prewar buildings. Parquet wood flooring was popular in the era and some of the units will retain the square wood floor style. Galley kitchens with cabinetry on both sides are standard unless the unit has been renovated. The tall windows allow for plenty of natural sunlight in and the terrace provides a view.
Condos versus co-ops in Flushing
Flushing is a neighborhood with co-ops and condos. The difference being owning a share of the co-op versus the actual unit in a condominium.
Buyers in Flushing are preferring condos, but?co-ops are more affordable, says Jasper Champagne, an international real estate specialist at eXp Realty. Condo values have also risen more over co-ops, he adds.
When it comes to condo versus co-op, some of the buyers Champagne worked in Flushing with have been investors, and investors buy condos as there are fewer restrictions when it comes to leasing and resale, he says.
The new building construction in Flushing are all condos, Champagne adds.
Diverse scene in Flushing
Within a block of The Stanton is Main Street Flushing, known for its diverse shops and the culinary scene. Check out Great Wall Supermarket and Sky Food for fresh vegetables and grocery staples. There’s Golden Mall with small specialty shops of different food vendors. Lao Yu Yuan serves up dumplings in myriad styles from crabmeat to its famous soup dumplings. QQ Cake and Bakery is a quaint spot for Chinese treats such as pineapple bread and honey chrysanthemum tea.
“People going to?flushing?are really going for the experience of going to?Flushing,” Champagne says.
Flushing Meadows Corona Park is nearby with nature and bike trails and the famous Unisphere from the 1964 World’s Fair. It’s also a popular site for Dragon Boat racing, a 2,000-year-old sport that originated from China that continues around the world today. For baseball fans, Mets baseball at Citi Field is part of the park; residents are just one stop away on the 7 train from seeing superstars Juan Soto, Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso. The USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center is next to the stadium, drawing tennis fans from around the world.
The U.S. Post Office and the Queens Public Library are within walking distance from the building.
Convenient location for commuting
The Stanton is conveniently located close to the 7 subway line on Main Street that is about a three-minute walk. It takes about 30 minutes to reach Midtown Manhattan by train. The Q53 bus that goes to Woodside and Rockaway in Queens and Q54 bus that goes to Jamaica, Queens, and Williamsburg, Brooklyn, are on Main Street within a three-minute walk. The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
