Why Live in Cape Elizabeth

Cape Elizabeth is a coastal Maine town 7 miles southeast of Portland, with a rocky shoreline, iconic lighthouses and highly rated schools. Because of the dramatic coastal views and the top-notch school system, it costs more to live here than in surrounding towns. Inland cottages, condos and Cape Cods sell from the lower $300,000s to the lower $600,000s, and most properties sell from the mid-$600,000s to $2 million. Luxurious beachfront estates can fetch $2.5 million to $7 million. The Cape Elizabeth Public Schools district receives high ratings, and the middle school is scheduled for an upgrade that is expected to be completed by 2028. Outdoor activities, especially running, are popular; the town maintains a trail system for runners and cyclists. Scenic parks include Crescent Beach State Park, Fort Williams Park and Two Lights State Park. The coastline is rockier here than in some nearby towns, but Crescent Beach has a sandy stretch of shoreline. Restaurants like The Lobster Shack and Sea Glass keep the coastal vibes humming. This is a car-dependent area, and it takes about 10 minutes to drive to South Portland and 20 minutes to get to Portland, where you'll find job opportunities, restaurants and nightlife in the Old Port. The Maine Mall in South Portland offers retail therapy, but groceries are available in town at Pond Cove IGA.
