Lamont got its start from seasonal workers migrating into the area with their families to seek better lives during the Great Depression. Today, this agricultural town 10 miles south of Bakersfield is known for its rows of farm fields of grapes, almonds, pistachios, carrots and other crops. “If I won the lottery, I’d invest in this area because it’s going to grow from people moving farther away from the Los Angeles Basin," says Lorena Cervantes, District Manager for the Bear Mountain Recreation and Parks District.
