High-end homes, secluded neighborhoods and lots of shopping
Bel Air South consists mostly of farm fields and high-end subdivisions and is located next to Harford Glen Park and Pleasant Hills. Though the landscape makes housing here feel secluded in nature, most residences are just a few miles from major shopping centers, Bel Air’s Main Street and the Bel Air Bypass.
“Bel Air is an easily commutable suburb with highly rated school districts. It's relatively safe and, while most people commute to Baltimore for work, Bel Air has its own shopping, dining and nightlife scene,” says Daniel McGhee, an award-winning Realtor with Homeowners Real Estate. Tollgate Marketplace, the Harford Mall and Main Street nearby create a nightlife atmosphere in a suburban setting, where people can shop or dine out without driving into Baltimore. Luxury amenities like the Mountain Branch Golf Course and the Valleybrook Country Club are located on the southern side of the neighborhood, and some homes can cost over $1 million. The CAP Index Score for Bel Air South is 1 out of 10, which is significantly lower than the national average of 4.
Bel Air shopping centers and major stores in Pleasant Hills

It has a lot of shopping and restaurants, it’s very quaint,” McGhee says. “Looney’s Pub is a huge staple for nightlife. They host bands and DJs and a lot of people from Baltimore will come out here just to go to Looney’s.” Main Street is also home to the Harford Artists Gallery in the marketplace behind the castle-like Bel Air Armory community center.
Along the Baltimore Pike are the Harford Mall and Tollgate Marketplace, which both have national chain stores, restaurants, banks and car dealerships. Shoppers can reach grocery stores like Target and Aldi. In Pleasant Hills to the south, Belair Road has a few locally owned eateries and breweries like Fallston Barrel House and The Local. There are also several more car dealerships and a Walmart on this road.
