Living next to a golf course in Saint Andrews
Saint Andrews is a quiet neighborhood next to Doublegate Country Club. It’s located 7 miles from downtown Albany in the northwest part of the city, an area that's well-developed and still growing. “The city seems to be concentrating on investing in downtown and the south side," says Tiffany Vicks, a Realtor with The Real Estate Concierge and a long-time Albany resident. The neighborhood is within walking distance of a small park and conveniently located near the city’s shopping corridors and several private schools.
Traditional houses on Brookhaven Court
Neighborhood houses, built from the 1970s through the 1990s, line narrow residential streets tucked away from Albany's urban bustle. Cape Cod, Dutch Colonial Revival and ranch styles with brick or clapboard siding rest on large, well-maintained half-acre lots. Most properties measure 2,600 to 3,500 square feet and feature double-wide garages and long driveways. Prices range from $245,000 to over $390,000. The southeastern and northern sections of the neighborhood are more prone to flooding. The CAP Index Crime Score is a 1 out of 10, much lower than the national average of 4.
Teeing it up at the Doublegate Country Club
Perth Park is a small neighborhood green space with trees and well-used swing sets. Next to it is the Doublegate Country Club, a private, members-only club that offers a par 72 course with 12 dog-leg holes. The club has a Junior Golf Program led by a PGA head golf professional. Membership also gives access to tennis facilities, a fitness center and a pool. The neighborhood is 8 miles from the Flint River, where locals enjoy access to boating and fishing.
Steak dinners at Decanter International Chop House
Both the Albany Mall and Albany Square, 2 miles away, are in the city's central commercial and retail district. The area is surrounded by chain restaurants and shopping centers that include stores like Publix and Target. Austin's Firegrill & Oyster Bar is an independently owned family restaurant known for its variety of raw oysters served Rockefeller or Creole style with bacon and jalapeño. Locals can reserve a table at the upscale Decanter International Chop House to dine on lobster tails and steak. Downtown Albany, 7 miles away, offers even more choices. "It's been cool to see the growth in downtown Albany, especially with small local businesses," Vicks says.
Deerfield-Windsor School offers private education
The neighborhood falls under the Dougherty County School System. Students may attend Live Oak Elementary, which has a C grade on Niche and requires students to wear school uniforms. Merry Acres Middle School has a C-minus rating and hosts The PREP program, which helps seventh and eighth graders transition to high school. C-rated Westover Comprehensive High School has an award-winning band, and athletics and robotics programs. Some families choose private education at the Deerfield-Windsor School, a co-educational institution serving prekindergarten through 12th grade. The school has an A-minus grade on Niche and offers STEAM-centered programs. The campus is divided into separate areas for lower grades and combined upper and middle grades.
Close to U.S. Route 82
U.S. routes 19 and 82 are accessible within 3 miles of the neighborhood. These thoroughfares provide lead north to Columbus and south to Tallahassee. "It's a good location for people traveling in and out of town," Vicks says. Downtown Albany is 7 miles away, and while the city does experience traffic, locals note it’s better than larger cities like Atlanta. Additionally, the neighborhood is within 10 miles of Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
