A central neighborhood noted for convenience and affordability
Although it rubs shoulders with both Coronado Center Mall and the major east-west interstate, central Albuquerque neighborhood Quigley Park’s main appeal for prospective homeowners rests on price. “Really, the draw is that it’s affordable because it was a midcentury development,” says Realtor and Broker Laurel Leisher of ERA Summit, who has 6 years of experience in the area. “Because it’s such an older neighborhood, there are mature trees. People still have grass in their lawns occasionally, although it does get to over 100 degrees regularly in the summer, so that’s not super common. It’s central in the city, near a couple of trendy districts, but overall, there isn’t all that much to it. It’s just a sweet, easy neighborhood to live in.”
Stucco-sided cottages with Pueblo features on sizeable green city lots
Quigley Park is a decidedly mid-century Southwestern suburb. “Houses here were typically built in the 1950s and 1960s. Some have been torn down and rebuilt since, of course, but they’re still affordable,” Leisher explains. “They aren’t exactly ranch-style homes – you’d have to take what you think of as a typical ranch-style and half the square footage. But they still have the wood beam ceilings, hardwood floors and vintage built-ins. The lot sizes are also a little bit larger since it’s an older part of the city.” Stucco siding and Pueblo-inspired features are common, although some brick cottages can be found, along with two-story Modern Traditional homes with Spanish tile roofs. Prices typically range from $275,000 to $375,000 depending on square footage, number of bedrooms and the status of any renovations.
Multiple are private schools earn high marks
Zuni Elementary School, located one block east of the neighborhood on Claremont Avenue, receives a B-minus grade from Niche. The closest public middle school is McKinley Middle, which earns a C. The neighborhood is zoned for Del Norte High, which scores a B. Nearby private options include the Evangel Christian Academy, also a B, and the Albuquerque Academy, rated A-plus.
Coronado Center and the trendy Uptown district are nearby
A major retail district for Albuquerque is less than a block away from Quigley Park. “It’s very close to Coronado Center, which is central for the city,” Leisher says. “There are a lot of amenities there, and it’s right by a Trader Joe’s and a Target.” The mall itself is home to over 130 restaurants and shops, and most daily necessities can be found in the other shopping centers surrounding it. Neighboring districts also promise appealing nightlife destinations. “It’s right next to Uptown, which you’d call an up-and-coming area,” Leisher continues. “They’re starting to put in rooftop cocktail bars like Volare and higher-end restaurants like Seasons 52 and Fogo de Chao, so it’s getting some recognition for that proximity.”
A nearby bus depot and quick access to Interstate 40
Proximity to the mall also means that Quigley Park residents have quick access to Albuquerque’s public transportation system. “One of the main bus depots is within walking distance of Coronado Center, but we’re such a spread-out city that you basically have to drive everywhere,” Leisher says. “The neighborhood is super convenient to the highway, as well. It’s maybe a two-minute drive to get to the Interstate 40 turnoff.” I-40 is the most direct route to Interstate 25, the major north-south connector for the region.
Picnics at Quigley Park and pickleball at Zuni Park
The community’s namesake Quigley Park on the eastern boundary offers an open green space for picnicking beneath the tall drought-resistant trees and a small playground for local children. Zuni Park, which features six tennis and pickleball courts for public use, is a short drive down Menaul Boulevard.
