Homes in Altamonte Springs are mostly ranch-style, built between the 1960s and 1980s. Some New Traditional builds are also available. Cranes Roost Park is the most popular outdoor spot in the city, located near Uptown Altamonte. The park surrounds Cranes Roost Lake. Its European-style plaza includes a choreographed water fountain show and the Eddie Rose Amphitheater, which holds regular events throughout the year. Sanlando Park is another favorite and offers traditional amenities like a basketball court and walking trail, but it is perhaps best known for its many lighted tennis courts. Attendees from near and far come out for Red Hot & Boom
Red Hot & Boom is Altamonte Springs’s most popular annual event, each July 3rd at Cranes Roost Park. The day-long, free event started in 1997 and draws about 250,000 attendees every year. “We have people who walk to the event and people who come from out of town and get hotel rooms,” Martz says. Attendees enjoy live music, food vendors and fireworks over the lake. Light Up the Holidays is another popular event at Cranes Roost Park. The Christmas-themed evening features huge light displays, a 60-foot Christmas tree, kids’ activities, and more fireworks. Florida’s theme parks are a short drive away. For a day at Florida’s theme parks, Walt Disney World is about 35 miles away, Universal Studios is about 20 miles away and SeaWorld is about 24 miles away miles away.

While Altamonte Springs’s location inland often protects it from hurricanes, residents should always track major storms for high winds and flooding. Some properties in the city are more at risk for flooding than others, and homeowners are encouraged to consider buying flood insurance.
