Huffman/O’Malley is one of the most sought-after Anchorage neighborhoods for its natural beauty, highly rated schools and proximity to parks and restaurants.

Niche ranked Huffman/O’Malley the No. 1 place to buy a house in Anchorage and one of the top five neighborhoods to live in the city. This quiet neighborhood is Anchorage’s largest and boasts picturesque views of the Chugach foothills and Glen Alps. Residents can also easily walk to schools and parks. Huffman/O’Malley is filled with single-family, ranch-style homes, two-story, Craftsman-style houses and luxurious cabins. Most homes were built in the 1980s, ranging from $400,000 to $850,000, slightly more expensive than the city’s average. The median price for a single-family home is $550,000, but newer, larger homes on several acres go for up to $2 million. Most homes have garages, moderately sized lots and stunning views, but higher-end homes offer firepits, raised garden beds and pergolas adorning large back decks. With immense spruce trees surrounding the neighborhood, residents enjoy a private, cozy feel with convenient access to amenities.

Students attend Huffman Elementary, Goldenview Middle School and South Anchorage High School. On Niche, Huffman received an A- overall and is one of Alaska's top 25 elementary schools. South Anchorage is ranked No. 1 best high school in the state for STEM by Niche and has an overall A rating and a B for clubs. Whether your student has a passion for the environment, loves the spotlight or is an avid gamer, the high school has a club to accommodate.

Huffman/O’Malley is closest to Rabbit Creek Park, with a 4.4-mile trail that’s a local favorite for hiking, biking or winter skiing. Experienced climbers frequent the rugged North and South Suicide peaks, the twin peaks above Rabbit Lake. The lake is also a popular spot for kayaking and fishing. The neighborhood’s heavily forested Huffman Park spans 11 acres and is great for hiking but is also used for equine-assisted therapy and as a cut-through for students to the elementary school. Bob and Arlene Cross Park offers a court to shoot some hoops, a wildlife trail popular for horseback riding and robust picnic area. Or practice your swing at the neighborhood’s Anchorage Golf Course, an 18-hole public course with 6,600 yards of tree-lined fairways and a restaurant.

Speaking of restaurants, the neighborhood is home to a variety of mom and pops and local favorites, such as Inferno Seafood Boil, comfort food joint Southside Grill and Moose’s Tooth, ranked the third-best pizzeria in the country. You can also grab a pint at Midnight Sun Brewing Co., Ravens Ring Brewing Company and Magnetic North Brewing Co. – all under three miles away. For shopping, visit Huffman Square or the Anchorage 5th Avenue Mall. And you have no shortage of local attractions close by, with H2Oasis Indoor Waterpark, The Alaska Zoo and mini golf venue, Castle on O’Malley all just a short drive away. Keeping the neighborhood engaged, The Huffman/O’Malley Community Council holds annual potlucks, “Coffee with a Cop” events and yearly Firewise events to help educate residents on staying safe during a forest fire.

If it’s majestic views and convenience to big city life you’re searching for, look no further than Huffman/O’Malley.

Great place to live, travel in and out is expensive and you learn to really take advantage of the shops we don't have when we visit the lower 48 states.
