Rural community on the Norris Lake watershed
The unincorporated community of Andersonville is nestled within the mountainous Appalachian region and sprawling valleys of Anderson County. The northern end of this neighborhood resembles a peninsula that extends into the Norris Lake watershed: “One of the highlights of Andersonville is the marinas on the lake’s crystal green waters – Norris is one of the cleanest lakes in America,” says Carrie Dougherty, a Realtor at Realty Executives Associates with more than a dozen years’ experience. Throughout the neighborhood, homes can be found sitting on large plots of land surrounded by woods and farmland, but as the area’s population continues to grow, a number of modern residential subdivisions have cropped up. Andersonville is located roughly 20 miles north of Knoxville, but the towns of Norris and Clinton are situated right next door and offer a number of retail amenities and dining spots.
A variety of inland and waterfront homes
This neighborhood is home to a mix of secluded farm homes, waterfront vacation properties and newly built residences situated in growing subdivisions that display a myriad of architectural styles. Yet despite this variety, one thing remains constant: no matter where residents find themselves, they’re sure to be surrounded by natural beauty and scenic landscapes. The pricing of homes here also varies greatly and depends largely on acreage and location. Near the lakefront, a three-bedroom log cabin sitting on 1.8 acres can sell for approximately $485,000, while a four-bedroom American Craftsman home on a wooded 4.14-acre parcel of private land can list for well over $800,000.

Andersonville Elementary School
Career and technical center at Anderson County High School
Primary school students can attend Andersonville Elementary, which receives an A-minus rating from Niche and is centrally located within the neighborhood. Students in grades six through eight can attend the B-rated Norris Middle School in the town over, which is listed No. 4 on Niche’s “Best Public Middle Schools in Anderson County” list. Anderson County High School also has a B rating and offers students dual enrollment options, industry certifications, and work-based learning opportunities through their Anderson County Career & Technical Center.
Go fishing at Sequoyah Marina
Anderson County Park in Pellissippi Point is located along Norris Lake and offers a range of outdoor activities and waterfront recreation. Throughout this nearly 200-acre park, residents can find playground equipment, hiking trails, picnic pavilions and campgrounds. Fishing on the lake is a popular activity for many in the area; in particular, “trout and striper fishing are big,” Dougherty says. For a prime fishing location, residents can head to the popular Sequoyah Marina, which also has a number of swimming coves and hiking trails. Additionally, the mountains surrounding Andersonville are home to a variety of wildlife, including “elk, deer and wild boar” according to Dougherty.

Retail and groceries in nearby Norris and Clinton
At the Anderson Crossing Shopping Center, residents can find a range of discounted household goods and basic groceries at Dollar General and find a couple of dining options, including La Sierra Mexican and The Dam Bar & Grill. A more expansive grocery store called Archer’s Food Center is located just north in the small city of Norris. The town of Clinton is a 9-mile drive away and offers a selection of larger department stores like Walmart and Tractor Supply Co.
Year-round events at the Museum of Appalachia
On each Wednesday afternoon during the month of May until late autumn, Andersonville residents can head over to the small neighboring city of Norris to check out the Norris Farmer’s Market in front of Norris Middle School. Locals who want to explore more of the region’s background and natural history can drive approximately 2 miles outside the neighborhood to visit the Smithsonian-affiliated Museum of Appalachia. This museum hosts year-round community events and celebrations, including Fall Heritage Days, Barn Dance and Candlelight Christmas.

Cruise down Andersonville Highway
Tennessee State Route 61, also known as Andersonville Highway, runs through the neighborhood and connects to both U.S. Route 441 and Interstate 75, which connect residents to the greater Knoxville metropolitan area. Those traveling to the McGhee Tyson Airport using I-75 can expect a 34-mile-long commute.
