The Historic landmark sits right inside Gardens Park and tells the story of the cities orgins.
Discovered by Eleanor Roosevelt
Dalworthington Gardens exists because of Eleanor Roosevelt. She passed through the area one day to meet her son's fiancé and knew it would be the next ideal place to establish a homestead for families suffering during the great depression. It was one of five homesteads created in Texas during that time and the only one still existing. Dalworthington is surrounded by Arlington and between Dallas and Fort Worth. As such, its name was designed to blend all the anchor cities in the metroplex: dal-worth-ington. Vast plains with ponds, flowers and old oak trees greet locals on their daily walks through this neighborhood. "It feels like you're in a rural area," says local Realtor Tara Gray with Compass Real Estate. "The lots are all pretty big over there too." Though situated in a booming metroplex expected to surpass 8 million in the next five years, Dalworthington remains a small place of around 2,300 residents.
The Great Backyard Bird Count
Locals might enjoy coffee while reading The Garden Gazette, the neighborhood newsletter released monthly. It's just one example of small-town charms in Dalworthington. The Gazette always opens with a warm note from the mayor, and it includes a thought of the day to ponder on. In February 2024, it was "Shining the light on someone else doesn't diminish yours." There's also always a cozy calendar of events in Dalworthington. Neighbors gather at Garden Park to watch solar eclipses. The park also hosts the Great Backyard Bird Count each year, where locals count how many birds they can spot and submit their findings online for all to see.
Dalworthington homes are on generous lots
Dalworthington homes spread out on typically at least half an acre lots. "You've got estates, and then you've also got little farmhouses, so there's a pretty wide variety," Gray says. The estates are sprawling Neo Traditionals with dozens of windows to let in natural light. Some have Tudor elements and homebuyers can also spot the occasional Spanish Revival. The grandest homes sometimes come with tennis courts and may be priced over $1 million, entry points for a modest ranch-style home are $300,000s, and a Victorian farmhouse with a pool could cost around $500,000. The gated Roosevelt Estates is also coming in the Spring of 2024. Currently, only lots are for sale starting in the $300,000s. Dalworthington increased property tax rates for homes over $100,000 by around $18 in 2024. Homes currently spend about 53 days on the market.

Pappy Elkins Park and its lake flow from Gardens Park, offering a fishing spot and picnic areas with tables and grills. The park also has a Monarch waystation garden, creating a habitat for dwindling monarch butterfly species to recoup to survive. Next door on Arkansas Lane in Arlington, Veteran's Park has 103 acres of green space with a 1.5-mile hiking and biking trail. The park also features life-size statues of soldiers from the Vietnam and Korean wars, an 18-hole disc golf course, and a wildscape garden full of native plants. Lake Arlington is just west of Dalworthington, where locals want to fish, boat, and watch seabirds scuttle along the shore.

Arlington Classics Academy, a public charter school with primary and intermediate campuses, is also a neighborhood option.
Roosevelt Drive to West Pioneer Parkway
It's important to have a car here as the city does not have a public transit system. It does have small shopping centers and a few dining-out options. Garden Plaza Shopping Center on Arkansas Lane houses Prespa's Italian Restaurant 1, known for its generous portions. Walmart Neighborhood Market has fresh produce and essentials off West Pioneer Parkway. Arbrook Oaks Shopping Center on South Cooper Street is around 3 miles along Roosevelt Drive for Target runs. And the 433-bed Medical City Arlington is 3 miles east on Matlock Road.
