Downtown Arlington is a vibrant neighborhood filled with trendy eateries

Downtown Dallas and Fort Worth have name recognition, but Downtown Arlington has small entertainment venues and boutique restaurants that give it its own appeal. “There’s a ton of restaurants and nightlife there in the downtown area,” says Rhonda Wilson, a native Texan and Realtor with Universal Realty, Inc. “Lots of places to shop and eat. It’s pretty entertaining.” Breweries, cafes and restaurants line the main streets, along with music venues like the Levitt Pavilion for the Performing Arts. Downtown also offers brand-new condo communities along its main roads and neighbors the University of Texas at Arlington, large public parks like Meadowbrook Park, and sports stadiums in the Entertainment District.

Burgers, drinks and live music await in Abram Alley

Downtown's main drag is Abram Alley, which consists of restaurants and nightlife venues on Abram Street. The area also extends to Main and Front streets. Amid the neighborhood's many trendy restaurants and bars, there are a few standouts. The Tipsy Oak on East Front Street serves burgers and chicken wings on a brightly decorated patio. Grease Monkey Burger Shop on Mesquite Street dishes burgers and drinks and hosts live music. J. Gilligan’s Bar & Grill on Abram Street serves late-night drinks and bar food and offers a complimentary shuttle to AT&T Stadium. Live music venues, like the 70-year-old Arlington Music Hall and the outdoor Levitt Pavilion, museums like Knapp Heritage Park and churches like First Baptist Arlington dot the area. Chain grocery stores, including Walmart and Whole Foods, are on Collins Street, outside of downtown. Along this same stretch is Lincoln Square, a shopping mall with clothing shops, fast food restaurants and a movie theater.

The Cowboys and Rangers play in Arlington’s Entertainment District

Downtown Arlington is a mile from the city’s Entertainment District, attracting visitors from all over Texas. The entertainment district has three major sporting venues — AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys, and Globe Life Park and Choctaw Stadium, which both host the Texas Rangers. Globe Life Park doubles as a concert venue. Six Flags Over Texas, one of the most popular amusement parks in the state, is beside these stadiums and the Arlington Museum of Art.

The Founders Plaza History Garden and Meadowbrook Park

The Founders Plaza History Garden is on Abram Street, directly across from City Hall and the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library. The Levitt Pavilion anchors the park and is surrounded by a large lawn, sculptures, flower beds and a water fountain. Meadowbrook Park, just off Abram Street, is another large city park with a rec center, playground, sculpture garden and a public golf course. Residents can walk or bike between downtown and the University of Texas Arlington campus on the Center Street Trail, a paved path from Center Street to South Street.

Modern condos with a convenient downtown location

Most new housing here consists of condos and townhouses for buyers looking for a prime location and slimmed-down space. “[Residents here] want the urban feel, the walkability,” says Georgie Zang, a Greater Arlington Chamber of Commerce board member and a Realtor with Compass Realty. “They want simplicity. They don’t want big. They don’t want yards.” Brand-new units in communities like Main 7 Townhome Subdivision cost between $400,000 and $600,000. Buyers will also find some brick ranch-style homes and cottages, built between the 1950s and '60s, which sell for $150,000 to $450,000.

Halfway to both Fort Worth and Dallas

The north side of downtown borders Division Street, a major thoroughfare. Division Street connects to Highway 360, which links to Interstate 30. I-30 leads to Fort Worth, 15 miles away, and Dallas, 20 miles away. The Dallas Fort Worth International Airport is within 15 miles of Downtown Arlington. There are no public transit options downtown, but Ride Trinity Metro offers bus routes on the west side of Arlington on Meadowbrook Boulevard and Brentwood Stair Road.
