Just across the Meramec River from St. Louis County, Arnold, which is also its own city, is a thriving suburban community. With a convenient location about 18 miles southwest of downtown St. Louis, this city is popular for both its "small-town atmosphere" and abundant parks. Pockets of protected nature where residents can spend time outdoors range "from rolling hills and green trees to beautiful waterways like the Meramec and Mississippi Rivers," says Arnold Mayor Ron Counts. First incorporated in 1972, the city is situated right along Interstate 55, so "it feels close to everything in the greater St. Louis area," Counts says. Despite being known as "the economic hub of Jefferson County," Arnold still maintains a family-friendly feel. Arnold has its own schools, stores and government, all located nearby, as well as a recreation center that offers programs in fitness and athletics for the community. "It's the kind of place where neighborhood barbecues and school carnivals still fill the weekends and evenings," Counts says. With parks and rivers nearby, great shopping centers around the corner and highly-rated schools, Arnold is a welcoming community conveniently located near the city.
