Upscale homes in suburban Ashland
Northwest Ashland is a suburban area on the edge of Ashland city limits, known for its upscale single-family homes and proximity to the Siskiyou Mountains. Hilly trails and open green space sit within the neighborhood’s parks, and residents are just over a mile from downtown and Route 99, Ashland’s main highway. A 24-hour emergency room operates a few blocks north at Asante Ashland Community Hospital, which has a cancer research center, a general medicine department and pediatrics specialists. This neighborhood has an overall CAP Index crime score of 2 out of 10, lower than the national average of 4.

Larger lots with rural proximity
Lots in Northwest Ashland usually span half an acre or more, giving neighbors more space than people living in urban Ashland neighborhoods. The average single-family home sits at 2,600 square feet, significantly above the national average of 1,900 square feet. Because the houses are bigger, prices are higher, typically selling between $600,000 and $1.5 million. Housing styles range from contemporary homes and New Traditional properties to custom Craftsman-style residences and midcentury houses built after World War II. Ponderosa pine trees and maple groves line hilly cul-de-sacs and create a private, idyllic atmosphere. Stone and wood touches help the homes blend in with the neighborhood’s natural surroundings.

Hiking in Hald Strawberry Park
In the middle of Northwest Ashland is Hald Strawberry Park, a large outdoor area with 2 miles of hilly dirt trails for hiking and dog walking. The trails connect to the Acid Castles Rocks trailhead, which marks the beginning of a 1-mile hike to a popular scenic spot dotted with large boulders. “The area is surrounded by a vast network of hiking and mountain biking trails,” says Justin Donovan, a broker with Ashland Homes Real Inc. and Ashland resident. Mount Ashland, the highest peak in the Siskiyou Mountains, is 30 minutes away. It gets busy in the wintertime with skiers, Donovan says. Westwood Park has open fields for picnics, and less than 1 mile from the neighborhood is Lithia Park, a popular 100-acre space often called the “crown jewel” of Ashland. Lithia Park features miles of paved walking paths, athletic courts and several gardens.
