Coffee and conviviality at the Five Points junction
For fans of Georgia football, Five Points might just be heaven from late August through November. For homeowners who don't love the Dawgs, Five Points may be a less joyful place, at least during home games when the crowds pour in for games at Sanford Stadium. “Everything becomes a parking lot during game days,” says Dr. Celine H. Evans, UGA ‘08, UGA DVM ‘12, and an associate broker with Sellect Realty. “If you live there you have to be aware of the game schedule.” Just west of the University of Georgia (UGA) campus, the greater Five Points neighborhood is named for the intersection of South Milledge Avenue, South Lumpkin Street and Milledge Circle. Its festive shops, restaurants and bars are a short walk from the white-columned facades of the university’s fraternities and sororities.

Kicking back at Cali N Titos
With a beloved coffee shop, a local bike shop and numerous independent restaurants, the Five Points intersection is the focal point of the neighborhood. “Jittery Joe’s is the coffee shop. They are an Athens company that started there, and they have a huge following with students and faculty,” says Evans. Colorful, casual and home to a patio that looks ready for a beach party, Cali N Titos on South Lumpkin is a longtime go-to in Five Points. “Cali N Tito’s is a really cool place,” says Evans. “It’s Latin American food, and it is amazingly delicious.” Just remember to BYOB. The porch at Marker Seven Coastal Grill exudes a “come-on-in” Southern vibe, and it's a fun place to dig into seafood sandwiches. For groceries locals can pop into the health-minded Earth Fare.

Memorial Park is a 72-acre green space
Nature, culture and recreation collide at Memorial Park south of the junction. Activities for kids at the park run the gamut, from a playground to the Bear Hollow Zoo to the Athens Creative Theatre, which offers classes for kids. The park is also home to gardens, walking trails and a dog park. Fishermen can attempt to outsmart the bream and catfish in the pond. Memorial Park Pool is open from late May through late July. Walking trails meander through a 100-year-old forest filled with hickory, oaks and tulip poplars at Oconee Forest Park on the UGA campus beside the neighborhood.
Five Points is also home to Bear Hollow zoo.

Home styles vary across Five Points, with ranch-style houses, Craftsman cottages, New Traditional homes and a few estates in the mix. Many lots are small to mid-sized but are pleasantly framed by trees and greenery. Home prices range from $305,000 for a three-bedroom bungalow to about $400,000 for a four-bedroom split-level home. Prices can hit $1 million and above for remodeled homes and new estates, all with five or more bedrooms. Condos and townhouses range from $220,000 to $700,000. Listings often tout walking-distance proximity to campus. Homes, condos and townhouses make up 80% of the housing mix, with apartments comprising another 18%. Condos and townhouses near campus may be a good choice for parents of UGA students who want to secure multi-year housing for their children near campus. Game day brings crowds during the UGA football season
Georgia won the 2021 and 2022 national football championships, and UGA football hogs the spotlight in Five Points from late August through the end of the season. “It is chock full of tailgaters on game day,” says Evans. “I’m not sure if [homeowners] can move. They need to be okay with being at home” for the entire day. Those who don’t snag tickets but want to enjoy the games with a crowd can watch the Bulldogs on television screens at bars across Five Points.
