Mt. Paran-Northside has private estates

Mt. Paran-Northside's roads have a collection of pines, birch and oaks, which hide residential properties that reach over an acre. Beyond the driveways and cloaked front yards are new traditional styles and custom houses; others show Italianate and Tudor influences. “It’s not a neighborhood where every house looks the same. You’ll have an Italian-looking villa, then something more traditional,” says Shelley Sloan, a Realtor with Dorsey Alston Realtors. These private, gated estates comprise 3,000 to 13,500 square feet. “You’re able to have privacy in the middle of the city,” says Sloan. Common amenities include formal gardens, swimming pools, basketball courts and golfing greens. Average home prices exceed the national average. Generally, residences range in price from $1 million to $5 million; however, some renovated mansions can range between $7 million and $8 million. Homes near streams and creeks have a moderate risk of flooding.

Pocket parks and enjoying the Chattahoochee

The community contains pocket parks in addition to nearby outdoor spaces. These small green spots include Hillside at Northside Drive Park Broadland and West Conway Park. “There are tons of trees and foliage to the point you kind of feel like you are not in the middle of the city,” says Sloan. The Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area has educational courses for climbing and kayaking as well as youth programs. Walking trails line the riverside, and locals can fish for trout or relax on boats on the river.

A community store open since 1906

The Mt. Paran Country Store has been a mainstay in the community since 1906 when the area was still farmland. The weathered wood convenience store is a popular spot among locals and area workers to fuel on gas or cheeseburgers. While the area has no walkable shopping districts, Northside Parkways is a hub for many retail stores and restaurants. Popular restaurants like Goldbergs, a traditional New York-style deli, and Blue Ridge Grill, an upscale restaurant with 400 options for wine, are frequented by residents in between shopping. Publix and Whole Foods serve as the major grocery stores for the neighborhood.
