Pinetucky’s historic and modern connections to Fort Eisenhower
Fort Gordon consumed most of a farming community called Pinetucky when it was built during World War II. Though the old settlement’s name isn't heard so often in this pocket of southern Richmond County today, a stretch of land on the opposite side of U.S. Route 1 carries its legacy and preserved pine-forested terrain to the outskirts of Blythe and Hephzibah. “It’s one of those little parts of history that not everyone knows, but I've been told that we’re sitting on the last remaining parcel of what was Pinetucky. I think it’s pretty cool to immortalize and memorialize it in a name,” says David Minnich, general manager of the Pinetucky Gun Club. “The views here are phenomenal – we're at some of the highest elevations in Richmond County, so you can see over the trees for miles. When the clays fly, it’s like they’re in orbit over Augusta.” Though it replaced much of the old Pinetucky, the renamed Fort Eisenhower is now essential to modern residents that work on base. Rather than transitioning into one of many suburban, satellite subdivisions, however, Pinetucky still gives its residents a taste of that old agrarian atmosphere, where large lots line tree-shaded country roads that lead to exceptional rural recreation destinations.
Public parks and private shooting ranges among Pinetucky’s forests
Public parks and private recreation clubs fill Pinetucky and its surrounding areas. The Blythe Area Recreation Center is home to a small playground and grassy fields that surround its rentable, namesake community center. Diamond Lakes Regional Park is just outside of Pinetucky, a much larger acreage full of athletic courts and fields, playground equipment and walking trails that loop through forests and around peaceful lakes. For decades, the hilltop ranges at the Pinetucky Gun Club have been a hub for marksmen of many types. “What’s unique about us is that we have not only sporting clays and skeet shooting but also rifle and pistol ranges. It’s like having two clubs in one,” Minnich says. A membership opens access to some club-exclusive events, but Pinetucky also allows the public to schedule time on the ranges without one.

Manufactured homes on small, forested acreages
As its name would suggest, Pinetucky is a forested area, where back roads are lined with sandy soil that supports a thick covering of pines. Manufactured homes sit back on small acreages between coves of trees, and a few ranch-style homes built in the midcentury can also be found around the area. Prices range from around $80,000 to $300,000, depending on the condition of the home and size of the lot. Undeveloped land goes for $20,000 to $45,000, depending on whether the lot is closer to an acre or upward of five in size. Pinetucky has a CAP Index crime score of 2 out of 10, lower than the national average of 4.
Attending regional schools in the Richmond County School System
Kids may attend one of a few Richmond County School System elementary schools, with most assigned to Blythe Elementary School, which earns a C from Niche. Both Hephzibah Middle School and Hephzibah High School earn a C-minus, and the latter is known for offering specialized career cluster pathways for students to focus coursework on fields from business management to engineering and technology.
Hephzibah Middle School hosts spirited events that bring students and families together.

Commuting down U.S. Route 1 to Fort Eisenhower and Augusta
Fort Eisenhower sprawls across Route 1 from Pinetucky, and those heading to work for the United States Army Signal Corps, Cyber Center of Excellence or any of the myriad businesses on base are within 5 to 10 miles of Gate Five. Doctors Hospital of Augusta is around 14 miles away, and Augusta’s downtown Medical District is only a mile or so farther from home. Augusta Regional Airport is about 15 miles away. A lack of public transit means that Pinetucky’s residents need a personal vehicle to get around.
Residents use US Highway 1 for direct access to Augusta’s city center and medical facilities.
Augusta Regional Airport offers a major travel hub without big city congestion for locals.

Competitive shooting and blacklight special events at the Pinetucky Gun Club
Marksmen take aim at Pinetucky Gun Club competitions on many weekends, including monthly Steel Challenges and United States Practical Shooting Association pistol matches. The club’s social media pages keep locals up to date on any upcoming special events and challenges, including popular themed nights. The clays glow bright orange under blacklights at Pinetucky’s Area 51 Stand, a newer recurring event for the times of year when the range gets dark earlier and pushes back daylight shooting hours.
Shopping and dining in Blythe, Hephzibah and along Tobacco Road
A few small businesses are scattered in and around the cities of Blythe and Hephzibah, set on the southern outskirts of Pinetucky. A Dollar General can be found in either area, but for a more developed commercial strip, shoppers are likely to head to Tobacco Road, farther north. A Walmart Supercenter, national chain restaurants like Sonic and McDonald’s, and smaller spots serving specialty fare like Jamaica Way and Dennis’ Bar-B-Q are about 5 to 10 miles from home. Small churches like Faith Baptist Church and Whispering Pines Baptist Church hold services close to home, but congregations of many sizes and denominations gather within a few miles of Pinetucky.

Noise from the county sheriff's training center and the Pinetucky Gun Club
Residents should expect to hear more gunshots in Pinetucky than in other rural parts of Richmond County because of the proximity to Pinetucky Gun Club. “We’ve also got the Richmond County Sheriff’s Department training facility here, so you’re likely to hear even more shooting coming from next door,” Minnich notes. Noise from the two areas occurs during posted operating hours.
The sheriff’s training site shapes discipline, skill, and camaraderie in every drill.
