Georgia suburb that was once a historic Army base
Once home to Camp Dyer, which served as an Army base for African Americans in the late 1800s, South Turpin Hill is a south Augusta neighborhood less than 10 miles south of downtown Augusta. The community is home to the Carrie J. Mays Family Life Center, a safe space and park, and the high school South Turpin Hill students attend, T.W. Josey.
“The draw for south Augusta’s neighborhoods, including South Turpin Hill, is its lower price points, says Justin Bolin, a broker with VanderMorgan Realty LLC, who has been in the Augusta Market for nearly two decades. “It allows buyers to purchase a home and be within walking or short driving distances to stores, restaurants and schools.”
Affordable homes in South Turpin Hill
The home inventory includes a collection of ranch-styles and bungalows that sit on narrow property lots featuring some yard space that is usually fenced in. Narrow city streets feature sidewalks that allow residents to walk around South Turpin Hill or nearby amenities. Prices in the neighborhood range from $15,000 to $152,000, and buyers can expect a three-bedroom bungalow to go for around $63,000, while a three-bedroom ranch will go for about $150,000. “The price points make it accessible for first-time homebuyers and investors looking for more properties,” Bolin says.
