An active and edible community on Austin's East Side
Vibrant, laid-back and undeniably delicious, Chestnut is a small slice of East Austin that offers some of the best amenities in the city. Chestnut is known for its stellar school system, engaged community members and a wide variety of restaurants and coffee shops on walkable city streets. Now, residents are nurturing the area’s burgeoning art scene. “There’s food, culture, music, and now art,” says Jill McLennon, owner of McLennon Pen Co. Gallery, an art gallery that showcases work from emerging and established artists from across the globe. “Everyone wants the art scene to grow. It’s very collaborative … The people are genuinely very nice, and it brings out the niceness you have within yourself.”
