Austin White Lime plant
A neighborhood keeping track of local history
Founded in 1882 at a railroad intersection, McNeil still retains a small-town feeling with long-running businesses and community forming around the local high school. “The area has a social and helpful atmosphere,” says Donna Andruk, an Associate Broker at Keller Williams. “They have an active FaceBook group and weekend events like the Rattan Creek Crawfish boil.” Yet, it’s surrounded by busy thoroughfares such as Mopac Expressway on the east, McNeil Road on the west and Parmer Lane on the south. The northern section of the neighborhood encompasses working ranch land filled with live oak trees, mesquite and dirt roads. The industrial manufacturing of lime and large tech development fill the midsection. Residents live on the southern edge of the neighborhood in apartments or homes near Parmer Lane.
Backyard pools and side yard gardens
There are four major subdivisions at the corner of Parmer Lane and MoPac Expressway — Northwood, Preston Oaks, McNeil Estates and The Reserve at Northwood. The cul-de-sac streets feature large lots with fenced-in backyards, often big enough for an inground pool. Homes were built between the 70s and 90s but hold value. “Over the years, property values in this neighborhood have shown a positive trend,” Andruk says. “Making it a potentially lucrative investment for homeowners.” Styles range from brick ranch-styles with attached garages to Colonial-revival two-stories, which often include fun colors and side yard gardens. A 3-bedroom will start at around $375,000 and go as high as about $750,000. An occasional mansion estate will pop up on the market, selling in the low to high millions.
McNeil High School inspires students daily.
Two highly-rated school districts
The neighborhood is zoned to Austin or Round Rock Independent School Districts depending on the location of homes or apartments. The upper portion of the neighborhood is zoned to Round Rock ISD and includes Wells Branch Elementary, scoring a C-plus on Niche; Deerpark Middle, rated B-plus; and McNeil High, rated an A overall. The high school recently was accredited as an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School. Students living in the lower portion can attend schools in the Austin ISD including Summitt Elementary, Murchinson Middle and Anderson High, which all score an A-minus or higher on Niche.
Indoor and outdoor fun for all
Residents have a few nearby neighborhood parks to choose from. The Balcones District Park has a free public pool, trails for hiking and biking, sports fields and courts and a shaded playground. The Yett Creek is a nature park with trails next to the Apple, Inc. campus. In Round Rock, the Play for All Park offers fun and development for children with all abilities. The local Northwest YMCA of Austin serves the community with pools, workout facilities and year-round programs. During baseball season, Round Rock is home to the minor league Round Rock Express at Dell Diamond.

Shopping and entertainment venues, like the Premium Outlet Malls, are abundant in nearby Round Rock. A few miles to the south, The Domain has been called Austin’s second downtown with spots like Whole foods, Neiman Marcus, Gloria's Latin Cuisine and the Museum of Ice Cream. Local strip centers along Parmer Lane provide convenience shopping and Austin’s favorite grocery store, H-E-B.
