One of the most desirable neighborhoods in Austin

Named for the hilly streets that offer stunning views of the cityscape, Travis Heights first gained popularity in the 1920s. Many of the homes dating from that era feature newly renovated interiors. "It’s full of charm,” says Stacie Watts, an associate broker on the Holm team at Compass with 10 years of real estate experience. “It's currently one of the most desirable neighborhoods in Austin combining the old with the new. It’s located right behind the bustling and growing South Congress district.” With Congress Avenue on the west, Interstate 35 on the east, Lady Bird Lake on the north and Oltorf Street on the south, Travis Heights is one of the most conveniently located neighborhoods in Austin.

From adorable bungalows to modern luxury

Travis Heights is almost exclusively residential, with many renters in single-family properties. "Homes range from adorable bungalows to modern luxury,” Watts says. “Price points can also fluctuate quite a bit between home styles and condition.” On the lower end of the range, a 2-bedroom condo in the Travis Green subdivision with amenities like community pools will go for around $350,000. On the same street, a new build with 5 bedrooms and an in-ground pool will peak at over $3,000,000. Yards are well cared for, while pedestrians and bikers are active throughout the day along the sidewalks.

Within walking distance to bustling SoCo

The neighborhood is within walking distance of all the shops, restaurants and nightlife of South Congress Avenue — better known as SoCo. Spots like Magnolia Cafe have become a fixture in the neighborhood as well as the murals "Willie for President" and "Won't You Be My Neighbor" that pay tribute to Willie Nelson and Mr. Rogers. For groceries, the H-E-B on Oltorf Street is currently a stand-in for a brand-new multi-level store scheduled to open in the mid 2020s.

Events for thrifters, movie and music lovers and foodies

On the first Thursday of every month, vendors, craftspeople, vintage clothing sellers and artisans set up shops along South Congress Avenue. On summer evenings, residents walk or bike to the Long Center for the Performing Arts to take in live music or a movie under the stars. In the spring, the Austin Food and Wine Festival brings some of the world's most renowned chefs to the city.
