a California suburb with a rural feel
Located in the rolling foothills of the Breckenridge Mountains is Eastridge Estates, a northeastern suburb of Bakersfield. Bordered by California State Route 178 to the north, residents have direct access to downtown while enjoying the perks of being a little off the beaten path. “You get those amenities of being in the big cities, but you have that feeling of being in a hometown,” says Jasmin LoBasso, superintendent of recreation and community services at North of the River Recreation and Park District. “There’s a lot of community involvement. You get a little bit of both worlds.” The surrounding mountain desert landscape also creates ample opportunity for outdoor activity, where residents can enjoy a lifestyle of hiking, biking and golfing.
Rows of ranches and Spanish Missions
Winding rural roads in the eastern portion of the neighborhood lead into the small, gridded subdivisions of the western side. Spanish Mission-style homes and ranches with a modern flair line the streets while shrouded in the shade of hovering willows and cottonwoods. Though the landscape is relatively flat and walkable, the surrounding rural terrain is hilly. Most homes come with two-car garages and multi-car driveways, making it suitable for households who commute to work. Prices range from $460,000- $640,000 for homes with 2,500 square feet or more, with the average price falling around $600,000. Homes with less than 2,500 square feet sell from $350,000 to $450,000, with the average sale price being $400,000.
