A slow-paced suburb within a mile of schools
While some streets in Fox Run are named for NASCAR races, the pace of life here is a little slower. “It’s a great neighborhood for families,” says William Gordon, who’s sold homes here since 2007 and is the team lead of the Gordon Team at Watson Realty. “You can see the density of children in this area with how many elementary schools are nearby.” Kids here attend highly rated public schools, and all are within a mile of the neighborhood. St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, the largest Catholic church in Kern County, borders the neighborhood, and Sunrise Community Center, which serves the area’s Muslim community, is also close. Parks and shopping centers are nearby, and so is Rosedale Highway, for a convenient 8-mile commute to downtown Bakersfield.
New traditional homes with manicured lawns
Fox Run’s early-2000s new traditional homes sit close together around sidewalk-lined cul-de-sacs, where basketball hoops are set up in the street. “The majority of the streets here terminate in cul-de-sacs,” Gordon says. “It’s designed so that traffic doesn’t pass through, so it’s very walkable, and kids can ride their bikes here.” Front yards typically feature manicured lawns, topiaries and palm trees, while backyards are just roomy enough for an in-ground pool. Most houses are single-level and have Mediterranean elements like clay-tiled roofs and stucco exteriors, and some also include Craftsman details like trussed gables and front porches. Layouts can range from 1,400 to 3,200 square feet. Prices, which range from around $350,000 to $600,000, vary based on size and renovations.
