Established collar neighborhood and quiet community
Located just 7 miles south of Bakersfield, Greenfield offers proximity to plenty of amenities within a 20-minute drive while boasting a quiet community. Spanish Revival homes cluster neatly on modest lots along the streets of this slice of California, creating ample room for residences. “Greenfield is an older area with residences ranging from entry-level homes to big pieces of land, creating a combination of rural and suburban feels,” says Realtor Shanti Brinsfield of Watson Realty. “It’s great for people who want a larger lot farther outside of Bakersfield.”
Single-story homes with Tuscan influences
The California sun warms Greenfield’s well-kempt streets, lined with single-story Mediterranean-style homes framed with manicured lawns, sidewalks and scattered palm trees. “Stucco facades and Spanish-influenced styles popular in the 90s are defining characteristics of Bakersfield,” says Realtor William Gordon, a lifelong Bakersfield resident. Residences typically have rambling floor plans, two-car garages and paved driveways, while others boast a more rural feel on larger lots. The median price for real estate here is $351,000, and homebuyers can expect to pay between $285,000 and $500,000 for a three-bedroom and one to two-bathroom home.

Air quality in south-central California
Bakersfield has a bowl-like atmosphere with little airflow due to its eastern boundary of the Sierra Nevada mountains and its western border of the California Coastal Ranges. There is a concentrated area of poor air due to the proximity of surrounding railways, freeways and oil rigs. According to the American Lung Association, Bakersfield consistently ranks high on the list of metropolitan cities in the nation with the worst air pollution levels. To help address the problem, the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District has put incentives in place, including annual no-burn days and subsidies for purchasing electric cars.
