Living in Highland Knolls
On the edge of Oildale, named after the miles of oil fields to the east, Highland Knolls is a small residential community just 6 miles from downtown Bakersfield. “While Oildale is considered a suburb of Bakersfield, it’s really its own town,” says Autumn Mitchell, Realtor with Tobias Real Estate, who was born and raised in Kern County. “Highland Knolls is one of the last neighborhoods before endless oil fields, but these fields, along with the Meadows Field Airport, provide numerous job opportunities for the region,” Mitchell says.
Single-family and mobile homes
The homes in Highland Knolls showcase the iconic Bakersfield architecture, mainly consisting of Spanish Revival ranch-style homes with red-tiled roofs, small bungalows and Split-Level homes with stucco facades. The neighborhood is also home to Highland Knolls Mobile Estates, a 55-plus mobile home community. Homes here sell within 12 days on the market due to their slightly lower sales price than the west side of Bakersfield, with the median list price around $338,000. Prices can range from $50,000 to $120,000 for a mobile home, $345,000 for a three-bedroom home, and $570,000 for a five-bedroom modern ranch house.
