Suburban setting close to downtown Bakersfield
Stone Meadows, about 9 miles south of downtown Bakersfield, is a convenient community with single-family homes, mostly dating to the early 2000s. "Stone Meadows has a suburban feel. It's a little more remote but still close enough to the necessities," says Realtor Shanti Brinsfield of Watson Realty, a specialist in corporate relocation and short sales. Bakersfield sits in the southern end of the San Joaquin Valley, roughly between Sequoia National Park and the Los Padres National Forest.
Stone Meadows' contemporary single-family homes
Stone Meadows' contemporary single-family homes have traditional elements like shingled roofs, while others have Tuscan- and Mediterranean-influenced touches like terracotta tile roofs and stucco exteriors. Two-car garages and short, paved driveways are common. "The homes are smaller in Stone Meadows than in neighboring Stone Creek, and they have fairly modest-sized lots," Brinsfield says. Three and four-bedroom homes of about 1,400 to 2,400 square feet are the norm. Prices range from $335,000 to $550,000.

Buck Owens and the Crystal Palace
Stone Meadows' Green Lawn Cemetery is the final resting place of singer Buck Owens, who moved to the area in the 1950s and became one of the most successful artists known for the "Bakersfield sound," a honky-tonk and rock-influenced style of the era. Owens was named to the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. Buck Owens' Crystal Palace, a music memorabilia museum and performance venue, brought musicians and fans to downtown Bakersfield for nearly three decades.
