Baltimore brick row houses near Druid Hill Park
Druid Heights in West Baltimore is a densely populated residential community. “Druid Heights is still close to downtown Baltimore and near a few government buildings, but it’s also near the arts district,” says Floretta Davis, a Realtor with Samson Properties who has been selling in Baltimore since 2003. Homes are predominantly brick row houses in various states of repair or renovation. Though the area has more renters than homeowners, the average listing price is around $150,000, which is lower than in neighboring Upton, Madison Park and Bolton Hill. The neighborhood is just south of Druid Hill Park and the Maryland Zoo. Students study within the Baltimore City Public School district, which is graded an overall C-plus on Niche. Gathering spaces with community atmospheres include houses of worship, such as the Masjid ul Haqq mosque or the Berea Temple Seventh-day Adventist Church. Often a gathering space and a place to get fresh produce, the market currently only has a few small businesses on-site, selling fried chicken, breakfast, lunch and baked goods. Locals can also cash checks at the market, though there is currently no grocer or produce stand. Local restaurants like Brudah’s Caribbean Kitchen and Yammi’s Soul Food offer fish and chicken dishes to-go. Penn Restaurant & Carryout offers generous portions of steak or wings, and they also serve breakfast sandwiches and pancake platters. For grocery runs, locals can head up to the Shoppers at Mondawmin Mall or get a few convenient items at the Dollar General on Pennsylvania Avenue.
