The Uplands neighborhood in Southwest Baltimore is a small community featuring a mix of the old with the new. Situated just west of New Cathedral Cemetery and south of Edmondson Avenue, Uplands is one part master-planned community, one part old-school Baltimore.

Homes here consist of traditional Baltimore row houses as well as newly constructed town house and apartment options. Row homes in Uplands date back to the early 1950s and most feature two-storied red brick facades, narrow front and back yards and small roofed front porches. Many of these homes also include decorative metallic awnings which hang neatly over doors, porches and windows. For those looking for newer builds, the City’s multi-phased Uplands redevelopment plan offers two- and three-storied town house options, featuring vinyl siding, community amenities and off-street parking. Currently underway, when finished the community will encompass 63 acres of land and feature a total of 719 mixed-use, for-sale and rental homes. In addition, the new community will also include access to a club room, fitness center and several tot-lots. The average sales price here is $270,000, with price points varying depending on the age, size and condition of the property.

Students here attend Baltimore City Public Schools like Thomas Jefferson Elementary/Middle and Edmondson-Westside High. Serving over 800 students in ninth through twelfth grades, the Edmondson-Westside High School offers a college-preparatory curriculum, a career pathways program, and opportunities for work-study or dual enrollment with local community colleges.

Residents can get their daily essentials at the Edmondson Village Shopping Center. Featuring a Giant Food grocery store, a Family Dollar and many casual eateries, you can knock out all of your errands in one visit. This shopping center is also home to several medical and dental facilities for all of your health needs, and the Enoch Pratt Library’s Edmondson Avenue Branch, where you can pick up the latest good read before heading home.

For some time in the outdoors, Uplands features several pocket parks and is also conveniently located to the expansive Gwynns Falls/Leakin Park system. Comprised of over 1,000 acres, Gwynns Falls/Lekin Park offers recreational amenities like athletic fields, as well as hiking and biking trails. The park also boasts a nature center, and the historic Orianda Mansion. Featuring vintage Italianate architecture, a gothic chapel, a cottage and a carriage house you can learn about the mansion’s former owner, railroad builder, Thomas Winans, or let your little one take a ride on the park’s miniature-train. However, you choose to spend an afternoon in this park, you’re bound to experience something fun.

Or for a change of pace, residents can always hop on the city’s bus system, or US 40 to get Downtown. Visit the National Aquarium, enjoy the Inner Harbor's many shopping and dining options, or simply walk the waterfront promenade.
