A quiet North Baltimore community
Bordering Chinquapin Run Park and sitting between the county and the city, Glen Oaks is a predominantly residential community in North Baltimore that is popular for its convenience. “It’s a good neighborhood in terms of upkeep by the current homeowners,” says Donnell Spivey, broker and owner of Exit Spivey Professional Realty, who has sold real estate in Baltimore for 38 years. “It’s also between the county and downtown, with easy access to all the major highways. Folks really like that convenience, since most of them commute. There’s a lot of townhouses there.” While the community is defined by dense collections of conjoined houses on quiet tree-lined streets, its proximity to major shopping centers and popular nightlife destinations along York Road help set it apart. Glen Oaks is a neighborhood for those who desire a suburban lifestyle but who don’t want to miss out on any of Charm City’s unique and exciting flavor.

More than just Baltimore row houses
Baltimore neighborhoods tend to conjure images of rows of tightly packed brick townhouses in the minds of prospective buyers, and Glen Oaks is no exception. These are prolific in the neighborhood, many set far back from the curb with paved pathways and staircases leading to covered front porches. While these often price between $195,000 and $270,000, they are not the only options available. “There are all kinds of styles in Glen Oaks,” Spivey says. “There are Colonials, Cape Cods, ranch-styles and even some more Modern Traditional builds. There’s a good mix, more than what folks may typically think about in Baltimore.” Prices for detached homes begin around $230,000 and rise as high as $305,000, with many featuring mid-sized front and back yards.

Locals grab coffee and a sandwich at Atwater’s, or stock up on pantry staples at The Seasoned Olive. Just across the street, one of Baltimore’s best dive bars beckons. Swallow at the Hollow, which was featured on an episode of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, is famous around the city for its unusual name, its lively game night atmosphere and its irresistible chicken wings.

Across the street is the storied Senator Theatre, constructed in 1939 and named one of the top 20 cinemas in the world. Neighbors can catch the latest blockbusters and revivals of classic films in an elegant, one-of-a-kind setting. Glen Oaks is also just 10.5 miles from both Camden Yards and M&T Bank Stadium, so residents can make the trip to Birdland to tailgate the Orioles and Ravens any time.
