Living in central Govans
Located in North Baltimore, the Govans area—which encompasses eight neighborhoods in addition to Winston-Govans—is named in part for former 1700s landowner William Govane. Initially a rural settlement located on the York Turnpike, this area evolved into a small suburban community. “While this neighborhood doesn’t get a lot of attention, it does offer a variety of housing stock,” explains Melvin Knight, lifelong Baltimore resident and Realtor with Coldwell Banker. “You’ll find Victorian cottages, small and big rowhouses, all from different periods. You’ll find homes from the 1919s to the 1960s.”
Winston-Govans is a small neighborhood located in North Baltimore.
