A community concentrated along Wyman Park
The neighborhood of Wyman Park is a long, narrow neighborhood that sits between the Hampden neighborhood and the Johns Hopkins University Homewood campus; a lot of people don’t even know it’s there, says Ben Garner, Realtor and owner of Garner and Co., who has an office in the neighborhood. But this well-kept secret in northern Baltimore has a lot to offer. While half of the neighborhood is made up of a walkable mix of rowhouses and businesses, the community’s namesake park makes up the other half. “The big draw here is there is an actual park called Wyman Park with walking trails and playgrounds, and you can walk the park and get to multiple parts of the Johns Hopkins University campus quickly,” Garner says. And because of the park’s long, narrow geography that spans the entire east side of the neighborhood, homeowners are never more than a few minutes away from it.
In fact, homes are another big part of the appeal here. “People want to live on three specific streets: Beech, Tudor Arms, and Keswick,” Garner says. “The streets are wider, and the homes often have original hardwood floors and plaster walls. This is the neighborhood for the people who appreciate the history of Baltimore, the charm of older homes, and who want to be in proximity to the shopping, dining, and nightlife of the Hampden and Charles Village neighborhoods, but in a slightly quieter setting.”

Ways to spend the day in Wyman Park
Following the contours of the Stoney Run stream, the shaded Wyman Park shares its border with the Johns Hopkins University Homewood campus and is inhabited by lovely oak and beech trees. Residents love having Wyman Park as an extension of their backyards. Offering trails and beautiful open spaces, this area is perfect for walking furry friends or enjoying some quiet solitude in nature. The expansive park also encompasses Potts & Callahan Park, with its many athletic fields. On rainy days, residents can spend the day perusing the Baltimore Museum of Art’s 97,000 works. If it takes more than one visit to take them all in, no worries — admission is always free.
Rowhouses and condominiums
Rowhouses make up much of the housing stock in Wyman Park. Varying in size and style, house hunters can find two- and three-story red-brick or stone rowhouses, many with roofed front porches or awnings, on tree-lined streets, some of which overlook the park. Condominium options are also available in the Tudor Arms building, Baltimore's oldest co-op. Prices range from around $180,000, which can afford a two-bedroom condo, to about $490,000, which can buy a four-bedroom rowhouse along the park.

Walkable shopping and dining
Many businesses in the neighborhood are concentrated along Chestnut Avenue. Residents can walk to a charming selection of boutique stores, like In Watermelon Sugar, a home goods store, or Howl, a pet supply store. For a bite to eat, Common Ground Café keeps the coffee and breakfast sandwiches in high supply all day long, The Charmery promises “happiness through ice cream,” and Rocket to Venus’s eclectic menu and interiors celebrate an attempted rocket launching in the neighborhood back in 1928.
Convenient to events at Wyman Park Dell
The nonprofit organization Friends of the Wyman Park Dell, which is a separate section of parkland in the adjacent Homewood neighborhood, offers many events close to home, like the annual Charles Village Festival, which includes live music, performances, food, and vendors, and the Holi Colors Celebration, when residents go wild with a “color fight” to mark the arrival of spring. On Tuesdays in October, the big screen comes out for outdoor showings of both scary and family-friendly movies.
Nearby Baltimore City Public Schools
Students in the neighborhood are served by Baltimore City Public Schools, which allows students to choose their own middle and high schools. The neighborhood is zoned for Hampden Elementary/Middle School, graded B by Niche. Renaissance Academy, graded C-minus by Niche, is one nearby high school students can choose to attend. The school prepares students for postsecondary education and career paths through studies in law, government, and justice.

Interstate 83 is the closest major thoroughfare to the neighborhood — about a mile away — providing residents with direct access to downtown Baltimore. City buses make stops in the neighborhood, and homeowners affiliated with Johns Hopkins University can pick up shuttles from the neighborhood to the campus.
