Suburban Bangor homes minutes from shopping and downtown
Bangor Gardens is well known as a residential neighborhood with easy access to downtown Bangor, about 2 miles away. "It’s a really nice neighborhood that’s only about 10 minutes from downtown, so you are really close to the dining, shopping and events that happen,” says Kelly Graham, an associate broker with Nexthome Experience who has been serving the Bangor area for over two years. Residents can stroll past ranch-style and Colonial Revival homes on quiet suburban streets that are a short walk from Bangor Gardens Park, which gives the community its name. Broadway is a bustling street home to a large shopping center and a streamlined route to the heart of the city.

The streets of Bangor Gardens are dotted with trees and housing options linked together with paved sidewalks. The neighborhood is primarily made up of single-family homes, with ranch styles and Colonial Revivals that average about 1,000 square feet, making up the majority of the market. Some of the colonials in the neighborhood also sport Dutch-style roofs that add variety to the streets. Many of the homes used to be old military housing for those working around the airport and are “good start-up homes for young couples, new home buyers or someone looking to downsize,” Graham says. Prices for single-family homes range between $200,000 and $300,000.

Bangor Gardens Park and Broadway Park
The only park in the neighborhood is Bangor Gardens Park, home to a colorful playset, a basketball court, open green space and a walking loop. Here, families can stroll around the loop while kids spin on the tire swing next to the playground. Just a mile south of the neighborhood, Broadway Park offers another playground and walking loop. “They do movies in the park or music in the park, and you often see people walking their dogs there,” Graham says. For views of the water and a place to exercise, residents head west from the neighborhood to the Kenduskeag Stream Trail, which runs between the flowing stream and Valley Avenue and continues all the way to downtown Bangor and the Penobscot River.

Paddy Murphy is an Irish pub located downtown in a historic building that offers patrons weekly events and a variety of drinks. The nearby Hollywood Casino Hotel & Raceway is home to Timber Kitchen & Bar, which Graham says offers “pub fare options that are more upscale,” like bruschetta and hummus boards.

Major roads streamlining the commute to Bangor
Interstate 95 hugs the neighborhood's southern end and Broadway lines it to the east. These roads are some of the busier ones in the city and thus can generate a lot of noise, but the majority of the neighborhood is peaceful and quiet. Broadway is also home to the Route 2 Community Connector, part of the Bangor bus line that connects residents to the heart of the city. Graham also noted that due to the neighborhood’s location and size, a lot of people walk around, especially on trails like the Kenduskeag Stream Trail. Bangor International Airport is 3 miles to the west, and St. Joseph Hospital is 1 mile south of the neighborhood.
