Bay Spring is a testament to Barrington’s changing economy. The town used to be a textile hub, and several of the mills ended up in Bay Spring. “In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, it was a popular summer destination with small cottages lining the waterfront,” says Tracy LeRoux, principal broker and owner of Link Real Estate based in Barrington. "People came to enjoy the cool breezes, swimming, boating, fishing, and the social scene at the Bay Spring Yacht Club.” On this far western edge of Barrington, homes are wedged between a state park and Narragansett Bay, making for a far quieter lifestyle today. Surrounded by Providence River and Bullock Cove, there are multiple marinas and oyster farms in the neighborhood.

New condos and larger residences
New condo developments have been going on near the business district. “Once a quaint collection of cottages, Bay Spring has evolved over the years, with many of the original homes replaced by larger family residences,” LeRoux says. "However, the neighborhood's quintessential New England waterfront charm remains intact.” The setting can be tight-knit, with slender lots featuring more space in the backyards. Some waterfront homes have their own docks. Houses stay on the market for an average of 11 days, and only five homes sold last year. Prices range from $391,000 to $840,000.
