Modern subdivision in easternmost San Jose
In eastern San Jose’s sprawling Evergreen Valley district, Murillo is a modern residential community at the edge of the city’s limits that borders the Diablo Range foothills. Like most of the communities in the Evergreen area, Murillo's single-family homes line winding, well-planned streets conducive to quiet subdivisions with low-traffic roads. The neighborhood's homes and roads are centered around Carolyn A. Clark Elementary, a high-rated primary school that draws potential homebuyers with children to this area. "The schools are what makes this area desirable; the schools and the community feel," says Aliya Mody, an Evergreen resident and Realtor with Intero Real Estate on the Eddie Oberoi Team. Murillo is also situated just down the road from the local high school and middle school. With local parks within walking distance and mountains directly east of them, residents here have easy access to a vast amount of recreational activities and the great outdoors. This neighborhood has an overall CAP Index crime score of 1 out of 10, which is lower than the national average of 4.

Desirable two-story homes start at $1.4 million
Murillo was developed in the late 1990s and early 2000s, but homes here are still frequently updated with modern amenities. As opposed to the ranch-style homes that dominate most of San Jose, the typical single-family home in this neighborhood has two stories. Spanish Revivals and Mediterranean-style designs are the most common housing styles, and although many properties share similar features, no two are exactly the same. Street parking is available, but residences also feature paved driveways and attached garages or carports. Well-maintained sidewalks, personalized front lawns and lush palm trees line the roads. Most properties sell between $1.4 million and $3 million in this area; the homes that sell on the higher end of that range tend to have higher square footage and more updates.

Only a few blocks away is Quimby Oak Middle, another A-minus-rated school that serves Grades 7 and 8. The A-rated Evergreen Valley High School campus lines the neighborhood’s western border and offers many opportunities for secondary students. The high school’s orchestra is nationally recognized and has had the chance to perform at Carnegie Hall all the way in New York City. The school’s speech and debate teams have also been widely recognized at both the state and national level. Additionally, Evergreen Valley students can enroll in elective classes in everything from STEM to the performing arts.

Outdoor recreation in the Diablo Range foothills
Murillo Lake Park centers around a long, narrow body of water surrounded by a popular paved walking trail that many residents use for outdoor exercise and walking dogs. Across the street is Casabella Park, which features another small network of paved trails that weave through open green space where people can relax or have picnics. The Diablo Range, located directly east of Murillo, covers well over 5,000 acres of natural land with dozens of hiking trails that travel up to the tops of the foothills, where parkgoers can find campgrounds, scenic outlooks and wildlife observation areas. Michelle Elliott, a local Realtor with Coldwell Banker, says that many people often head to Alum Rock Park, which is 8 miles north of Murillo, for access to the hiking trails, campsites and additional recreation in the Diablo Range.
