The coastal suburb of Bayonet Point has "a bit of everything,” says local Realtor Susanna Vizzari of Re/Max Sunset. “There are beaches for swimming, rivers for fishing and kayaking, tons of shopping and dining. Really, whatever you’re looking for, you can probably find it close by.” The community, about 40 miles north of Tampa, is named for yucca, an edible root commonly referred to as Spanish bayonet for its long, pointed leaves. Like its namesake, Bayonet Point is a broad area bursting with sharp features and deep roots, including award-winning antique malls and locally owned stores near 4,000 acres of protected state park land.

Midcentury ranch and large garages
Housing options include multiple subdivisions of single-family homes, 55-plus communities of manufactured homes and a few condominium complexes. "They have a few homes there that were built in the early 2000s," says Realtor Jackie Little of the Little Group for Keller Williams. "They're almost newer construction because a lot of what we sell is from the 1960s and 70s." Midcentury ranch houses are the most common form of housing, especially in the Palm Terrace Gardens and Palm Terrace Estates neighborhoods. The handful of homes built in the late 1990s and early 2000s tend to come as snout houses with broad multi-car garages, like in the Beacon Woods neighborhood. The median home price is $231,000, just over half the national median.

For coastal outings that aren't so reclusive, residents make their way north to Hudson Beach for fishing charters, sunbathing spots, and several restaurants with live music. Many residents also enjoy membership discounts on tee times at Beacon Woods Golf Course, a public 18-hole par-72 course just north of town.

Since 1975, Acropolis Meats and Deli has served the community as a popular option for choice cuts of lamb and other meats, and Carolina's Cuban Cafe serves up one of the most popular Cuban sandwiches around, rivaled only by their appetizers. Toll roads and state highways
Although drivers can take Highway 19 to reach the downtowns of Clearwater and St. Petersburg, heavy traffic prevents most riders from using it for long trips. According to Little, car-dependent residents have "really easy access to the Veteran's Expressway" by taking the Suncoast Parkway. "It's also easy to get over to Interstate 75," Little says. GoPasco, Pasco County’s public transportation, has several bus stops along Highway 19. Tampa International Airport is about 37 miles away. The nearest hospital is HCA Florida Bayonet Point, located a few miles north.
Things to consider
Homes adjacent to Werner-Boyce Salt Springs State Park are at risk of damage from high water due to the park's many creeks and bayous. The area has a humid subtropical climate, with average summer temperatures in the mid 80s. Recent crime statustics are not available, but the Pasco Sheriff’s Office was the first agency in Central Florida to adopt a full scale body camera initiative. The county has a comprehensive plan in place that will prioritize future park system enhancement, rural land protection, natural resource preservation, and more.
