At the northern tip of Long Island’s Nassau County sits the beachfront village of Bayville, a small community home to just under 7,000 residents. With scenic views of the Long Island Sound, a vibrant culinary scene, a thriving beach culture, and picturesque sunsets, this locale stands out among its peers as a hidden gem of the North Shore.

Bayville was once a rural community dedicated to shellfish harvesting, sand and gravel mining, and the raising of livestock and asparagus, but the suburbanization of America’s Gilded Age resulted in Bayville transforming into a resort town for wealthy New Yorkers. Bayville escaped the urban sprawl that New York City experienced during the mid-20th century, and has since retained its small-town character, with a single drawbridge connecting Bayville to the rest of Oyster Bay. Its quiet suburban streets are lined with a variety of home styles, from Cape Cod and ranch-style residences to houses dating to the early decades of the 20th century. These cozy homes sell for between $600,000 and $2.5 million, reflecting the popularity of this tranquil village.

While Bayville has a rich history, its glory days have never ceased to end. This village is as lively as ever due to its beaches and, especially, its dining scene. Walls Wharf Restaurant and Catering is one of this town’s most popular landmarks, and not just because of its delectable clams, calamari, and shrimp tacos. This beachside restaurant offers panoramic views of the Sound, with the skyline of Connecticut visible in the distance. Mill Creek Tavern, at the heart of town, is another favorite eatery, serving up a variety of dishes from fried chicken and burgers to steaks and sandwiches. The Clam Bar at Bridge Marine invites customers to enjoy an outdoor meal near the yacht docks on Mill Neck Creek, beside the town’s iconic drawbridge.

Within town, grocery shopping is made easy by the concentration of markets along Ludlam Avenue; here, you can buy fresh meat from the Bayville Meat Center and seafood from Bayville Seafood, as well as other groceries and marine supplies at nearby stores.

Bayville’s white-sand beaches have played a central role in this village’s development into a fashionable resort town. At Bayville Beach, you can relax along the deep blue shore and watch the seabirds trot along the water’s edge, nautically inclined visitors relax aboard their boats in the Sound, and your neighbors set up colorful umbrellas and beach chairs for a day of scenic relaxation. Centre Island Beach is not just home to sandy shores, but also to a dog park and a football field for other outdoor recreation options. When the summer months are over, the Bayville Adventure Park is home to a Winter Wonderland for the holiday season, as well as a Scream Park for some Halloween excitement.

Bayville’s students attend Bayville Elementary School before attending Locust Valley Intermediate School and Locust Valley High School, which has an “A” rating on Niche.com and special commendation for its college preparation, academics, and teachers.

Bayville is located just an hour outside Queens, New York City, offering residents both an easy commute into the city and a lovely home to return to at the close of the day. This bayside town may just be a "Sound" choice for you!

Its a nice town to grow up in. Its quiet and small filled with many age groups. It is surrounded by beaches and anyones house is no more than a 5 minute drive from a body of water. Summers in Bayville are fun but winters there isn't really much to do. There is not many shops or anything due to there being a law that we cant have any chain restaurants in the town. Everything is in walking distance so its ok.

Bayville is a great town to raise a family because it is very safe and has a lot of young kids. The beaches are good for the summer when you don't wanna drive 45 minutes to Jones Beach. In the fall/winter the amusement park can be a fun place but can also be very expensive. There isn't that many restaurants to eat at here in Bayville, but there are 4 or 5 good ones. A downside of Bayville is the commute time for anyone that works in the city or further out on the island. There also isn't much to do for teenagers/adults in the town. Not much stays open past 9:30. Bayville is a great town for families with younger children.

From April to September it's like any beach town autumn is nice usually not to cold until late December then it's a crapshoot of a ten to twelve week stretch of sometimes not so bad weather to blizzard conditions Always an excuse to escape for a warm weather destination One supermarket one drugstore two delis Ten minutes car ride to either Oyster bay or Glen cove Twenty minutes to either Huntington or Hicksville The surrounding landscape is unmatched by anyplace in variety in a seven mile radius is outstanding most is open to the public Power outages have been a problem probably because of all the beautiful trees is surrounding areas One road into Bayville one road out if the bridge is out then only one way in one way out That happened during Sandy for over a year What a drag Otherwise if you can afford to live in in Bayville I say go for it
