Expansive woodlands and large lots just north of Milford
Just about 20 miles from downtown Manchester lies the small rural town of Mont Vernon, where residents have the benefits of country living and proximity to urban amenities. The oldest parts of the community date back to the 1700s, and historic Colonial Revivals and ranch-style homes rest on large lots under the shade of towering trees. Houses are situated along quiet country roads that lead to neighboring communities like Amherst, Milford and Manchester. Shopping and dining options aren't far from home. “It’s a place to escape the city,” says Rebecca Schwarz, an administrator with Mont Vernon Town Hall who has lived in the community for over seven years. “It is just close enough to the recreation in nearby cities and just far enough away where you get peace and quiet.”
Mont Vernon hiking trails
Residents of Mont Vernon have a number of ways to access nature. Less than 2 miles from the town square is Purgatory Falls, a walking trail that runs alongside the water and is easily trekked. Lamson Farm is home to additional trails and to the oldest property in town, a farmhouse constructed in 1760. The farm is also the location of multiple annual events, including the vintage baseball game at the Doc Adams Birthplace Classic. Traveling athletes dress up in historical baseball uniforms to honor Doc Adams, one of the sport's earliest players who was born here. The Mont Vernon Historical Society Museum is in the town hall and has artifacts and tales of the town’s past.
