Elevated suburban streets in scenic southern Bellevue
The suburban neighborhood of Somerset is in southern Bellevue between the state's biggest lakes. Beachside parks are within a 4-mile drive, whether west to Lake Washington or east to Lake Sammamish. "Somerset is exclusively residential, with high-end subdivisions adjacent to Coal Creek, a natural, forested area that they've segmented off," says Geoff Hill, managing broker and a top-producing agent with Keller Williams Greater Seattle. "It's high-end because it's kind of up on a hill, and a lot of homes have views." Somerset's peak, with lake and mountain vistas, is at an elevation of over 1,000 feet.
Scenic views in Somerset abound thanks to the neighborhood's relative high elevation.
You can be sure to see some stunning views from many homes in the Somerset neighborhood.

Daylight ramblers and contemporary homes
Bellevue was developed starting in the 1960s. "The houses that haven't been updated are what you'd think of as mid-70s daylight ramblers or split-level ramblers," Hill says. "They were popular from the late-'60s to the '70s." Daylight ramblers are often set on a hill, with basements that include above-ground windows and a sliding glass door that opens to the backyard, where some may also put in a large rec room where the upstairs will feature an open-concept layout. "It's not a true basement, like a creepy basement that's totally dark, with concrete floors.” Hill says. “They are not considered good feng shui, but I'm seeing a lot of that style of home in Somerset."
Hill says that out of about 30 listings, the cheapest home that sold in Somerset was $1.3 million, and a number sold for $3 million or more. Ramblers and other homes with 1,700 to 2,000 square feet sell for $1.3 million $1.6 million. "Some of the older ones were torn down to make room for the McMansions," Hill says. Houses with 3,000 to 4,400 square feet go from $1.8 million to $3 million. "If you can buy a good-sized lot in Somerset and bulldoze it for a million bucks, you can build your dream home and probably have a property worth $2.5 million." Additionally, the CAP Index crime score for Somerset is a 2 out of 10, less than half the national average.

I-90 and 405 junction, commutes to tech hubs
Bus service is available in the neighborhood; there are stops along Somerset Boulevard. A couple of miles from Somerset lies the junction of interstates 90 and 405. This major transportation point offers routes north, south, east and west, to access all parts of the region. Welcoming design at South Bellevue Station
South Bellevue Station, about 4 miles from Somerset, is part of Sound Transit's East Link Extension. "It's a pretty nice station, it's nicely seated into the landscape," says designer and public art specialist Vicki Scuri. "Sound Transit worked with the community and realized there could be an art program to mitigate the impact on the open space wetlands." Scuri and collaborator Alexandr Polzin created the digital designs and specifications for the station art. "The acoustic panel cladding and the girders made a drab, gray expanse, so one thing the community wanted was some sort of bright ribbon to integrate it into the landscape and the Mercer Slough," Scuri says of the patterning that reflects the seasons and creates a welcoming environment.
There are numerous bus stops that run through the neighborhood along Somerset Boulevard.
