Home to Cornwall Memorial Park and PeaceHealth Saint Joseph Medical Center
Set 2 miles north of downtown Bellingham and bordered by Interstate 5, the Cornwall Park neighborhood is anchored by its namesake, Cornwall Memorial Park, and the PeaceHealth Saint Joseph Medical Center, the only hospital in the city. "The proximity makes it a great location for doctors, nurses or other providers who have to be on call within a certain distance," says Jennifer Sandoval, local real estate agent with John L. Scott Inc. These two features dominate the neighborhood’s north side, surrounded by smaller medical facilities and practitioners; the south side is almost entirely residential, offering more diversity of home and lot sizes compared to other neighborhoods west of the freeway like Sunnyland. Meridian Street, which forms Cornwall Park’s west border, has mom-and-pop shops, neighborhood diners and other casual eateries. Bike lanes and wide sidewalks make it easy for locals to get to local shops and cultural institutions like the Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Church. Parkview Elementary, adjacent to Cornwall Memorial Park, is a major draw for young families.
Renovated Craftsman and midcentury ranch-style homes
Most homes are set in the southern half of the neighborhood, including a mix of Craftsman bungalows built between 1900 and 1925 and midcentury Minimal Traditional ranch-style homes. The oldest and largest homes in the community feature Victorian-inspired elements like steeply gabled roofs and stone chimneys. Two- to three-bedroom properties tend to sell for between $500,000 and $700,000, while four-bedroom recently renovated properties can go for between $800,000 and $1.5 million depending on lot size and square footage. Lots in Cornwall Park tend to be a little larger than many other neighborhoods in Bellingham, decorated with native shrubbery and flower beds. Many of the neighborhood's aged streets have visibly patched potholes and cracks, with ample street parking since most early 20th-century homes don’t have garages.
These Cornwall Park Craftsman homes are the perfect blend of comfort and charm.

Family involvement at Parkview Elementary School
Parkview Elementary School, rated B-minus by Niche, is located at the neighborhood’s center. The school’s PTO likes to welcome new and returning students by having Bamboo the Panda, the school’s mascot, visit a student’s household in the form of a lawn sign. This popular tradition, known as getting “Bambooed,” is a group effort, with a list of addresses on the back of the sign dictating where it should be delivered next once it’s been received. Students may move up to the B-plus-rated Whatcom Middle before graduating from the A-rated Bellingham High. Bellingham High students can choose from more than 40 after-school activities, including a Birding Club inspired by the school’s Bayhawk mascot, which goes on birdwatching excursions to nearby greenspaces.

Cornwall Memorial Park, the neighborhood’s namesake, spans 70 acres of open fields, mature magnolia trees and the babbling Squalicum Creek. Over a mile of walking trails connect the park’s amenities, including playgrounds and a 9-hole disc golf course. “One of the coolest aspects of the park is the world-class frisbee golf course; it’s very well used,” Braimes says. “The pickleball courts are busy all the time, too.” Smaller parks on the neighborhood’s south side include the Cornwall Rose Garden, established in 1916 with more than six different types of roses, and Broadway Park, which offers grass fields and a large playground. Planned expansion of the PeaceHealth Saint Joseph Medical Center
The PeaceHealth Saint Joseph Medical Center is the only hospital in Bellingham, set in the middle of Cornwall Park and surrounded by smaller health practitioners. A shortage of medical facilities and specialists in Bellingham can often result in long wait times. In Fall 2023, the city approved a proposed expansion plan for Saint Joseph’s, adding a 70-unit emergency room and 140 new beds by 2030. The expansion will also include the training of 215 new medical personnel, which may help improve availability. Passing ambulances and Helicopters conducting medical evacuations can cause some noise pollution for those living in the immediate vicinity.
Cornwall Park is home to the only Bellingham Hospital, PeaceHealth Saint Joseph Medical Center.
The charming and friendly community of Cornwall Park welcomes your arrival.
