Shopping district 3 miles north of downtown Bellingham
Bellingham locals from all over town come to Meridian to shop at Bellis Fair Mall and all the surrounding department stores, chains and restaurants on the neighborhood’s namesake street. About 3 miles north of downtown Bellingham, which features more locally owned establishments, Meridian has the highest concentration of national retailers surrounded by sprawling parking lots. The high level of foot traffic and proximity to Interstate 5 has also attracted business parks, small industrial operations and institutions like Singh Sabha Gurdwara, a Sikh place of worship. Housing in Meridian mainly consists of apartments, though single-family homes can be found around the neighborhood’s southern and eastern edges. “You go out to Meridian to go to Home Depot or the mall, things like that,” says Julian Friedman, owner and real estate agent with Julian & Company of the Muljat Group. “It’s not as walkable as other Bellingham neighborhoods.”

Homes typically have between two and four bedrooms, with prices ranging from $400,000 to $750,000. A few mid-rise condo complexes, usually within walking distance of shopping centers, offer two- and three-bedroom units for between $300,000 and $450,000.
