Mature tree suburb in Montgomery County
Bradmoor’s spacious, verdant surroundings appeal to locals who want suburban homes while staying within an hour's drive to major government employers in Maryland or D.C. and just a mile east of the retail variety in Downtown Bethesda. “It’s near Bradley Hills Elementary, and also near Greenwich Forest Park, but it’s not so much parkland, more so neighborhood parks,” says Lauren Davis, a Bethesda native and Realtor with TTR Sotheby’s International. “It’s also [appealing for] the proximity to NIH, a world-renowned hospital, [which] draws a lot of people who work there.” It’s within walking distance of several high-ranking Montgomery County schools, so children here can stroll to class. Home prices may be high for the greater D.C. area, but they’re lower than other neighboring communities like Edgemoor to the south. Buyers can expect this to be a low turnover area as well. “People enjoy living there so much that they tend not to want to give it up,” says local real estate agent Ron Sitrin of Long & Foster Real Estate Inc.

Midcentury builds beside new custom homes
Bradmoor is an entirely residential area in north-central Bethesda, save for a few parks and bus stops. Sidewalks and mature trees line its winding neighborhood streets, where roughly 1,300 people live in sizeable, stately homes built across several decades. “It’s common for people to make additions on their houses or even tear down an old house and build a new one on the lot because they want to stay in the neighborhood,” Sitrin says. While the average single-family home here is over 5,000 square feet, many midcentury builds, including ramblers, offer sub-2,000-square-foot plans. Home values range from $1 million to over $2.3 million, varying by square footage and age. Toward the low end of that price range, buyers can find brick colonial and split-level houses built as far back as the late 1950s, often with around 1,500 square feet. New millennium mansions in New Traditional and Craftsman-style styles tend to be priced on the higher end. Homeowners here love to adorn their lawns with shrubs and gardens. Halloween is a serious occasion for folks around Bethesda, and Bradmoor residents typically venture to Huntington Terrace to see the most detailed spooky lawn decorations.
