Picture yourself driving south past Bethesda and stumbling upon a sprawling golf course: now, look to your right and notice the meticulously planned streets of Chevy Chase Terrace. Narrow, well-maintained sidewalks share space with a bright collection of trees and shrubs. Some sidewalks give way to small driveways, but most residents make use of street parking.

In this established neighborhood there are homes dating back to the 1910s as well as a handful of builds from the past decade. As a suburban community seven miles from central D.C., homes on the market range from $1 million to $6 million depending on their styles and size, and there are quite a few. “You’ll see mid-century ramblers, split levels, contemporaries, and new construction,” Realtor Phyllis Wiesenfelder of Compass Bethesda says. The exterior improvements made on these homes complement the neat yards and manicured trees.

Neighborhood students can travel to school by foot via the shaded sidewalks. Somerset Elementary is Niche-ranked in the top 6% of public elementary schools in Maryland. Students who later attend Westland Middle School have access to a unique curriculum offering computer science and fine arts such as dance and theater. Bethesda Chevy Chase High rounds out the list, specializing in college preparation courses. 57% of the high schoolers here challenge themselves with AP courses.

After school, high schoolers can head to Norwood Park and enjoy the variety of amenities including basketball, football and soccer. The park playground is ideal for younger kids who love slides and obstacles. Adults can test their stamina on the well-traversed hiking trails. In the mood for a more solo sporting experience? Just across Wisconsin Avenue, the verdant golf course of Chevy Chase Club offers members a respite from the work week and an opportunity to bond with their neighbors. Founded in 1892, this club is older than most of the homes it serves. Relax, socialize and absorb the views from the decorative clubhouse.

No more than a mile away from the club are several restaurants in Bethesda proper. For savory breakfast and brunch options, visit the Tatte Bakery and Café. Tatte has a variety of vegetarian and gluten-free options, so fear not: this bright, welcoming staple of the community has something for everyone. At the Woodmont Grill, go reliable with a New York Strip; or, for the more adventurous, a handmade sushi roll. Reserve far in advance because tables go quickly.

Preparing meals for the week is a breeze, with both a Trader Joe’s and a Harris Teeter located up the road in Bethesda. For those in need of a little retail therapy, spend a Saturday exploring Bethesda Row for this year’s most popular brand names in-store. In-between fashion experiments, stop for a smoothie, or save your appetite for their dine-in vendors’ creations. Be sure to try a luxury seat at Landmark’s Bethesda Row Cinema and enjoy the newest feature films while sipping something from the full-service bar.

With housing styles as varied as its dining and entertainment scene, Chevy Chase Terrace has nearly everything you’d need. Visit the club and see why the grass really is greener.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
