Residential community with access to DMV attractions
Kenwood Park, about 8 miles north of Washington, D.C. and 2 miles east of Downtown Bethesda, offers large lots, new construction and highly-rated schools. In the spring, the cherry blossoms bloom, washing the neighborhood in light pink hues and attracting sightseers. A short drive from amenities in Downtown Bethesda and close to numerous Metro stops, the neighborhood is great for those who want to be near the DMV’s attractions without being in the thick of it. Realtor Lauren Davis with TTR Sotheby’s International Realty says, “People move here because of proximity to good public and private schools, proximity to Downtown Bethesda and because the lots are a little bigger than adjacent neighborhoods.”
Out with the old, in with the new
Homes in Kenwood Park sit in tidy subdivisions with wide, walkable streets. No two houses look the same – each has architectural characteristics that set them apart from their neighbors. Styles range from stately Colonial Revival properties to modern constructions with clean, minimalist designs. “It’s becoming a trend to tear down older properties and build new homes,” Davis says. “Since there are large lots and good schools, people want to live in custom-built homes here.” The median single-family home price in Kenwood Park is just over $2 million, with most properties featuring five to seven bedrooms and including luxury amenities like pools or multi-car garages. There are also some condo options available, and these properties run in the $200,000 to $300,000 range.
Kenwood Park schools get an A-plus
Students are zoned for Montgomery County Public Schools. They can attend Potomac Elementary School and Thomas W. Pyle Middle School, earning A’s from Niche. Students can finish their public education at Walt Whitman High School, which boasts an A-plus from Niche. Walt Whitman offers six Career and Technical Education Clusters, including programs in international business and early child development. There are also renowned private school options in the area, including all-boys Landon School and all-girls Holton-Arms School.
Whitter Woods Park and Kenwood Country Club
With more than 6 acres of recreational space, Whittier Woods Park's facilities include a playground, athletic fields and lighted tennis courts. The members-only Kenwood County Club and its par 70 scenic golf course run over a hilly landscape from River Road across Goldsboro Road. David says, “Some layers of Kenwood Country Club go into the neighborhood. Locals can join Kenwood for tennis, golf, or to go to the pool in the summer.” For cyclists and hikers, a sliver of Capital Crescent Trail, a 7-mile shared-use rail trail that runs from Georgetown in Washington, D.C., to Bethesda, cuts through the neighborhood. The pathway leads to the Trail Park – a prime spot to view some of the area’s eye-popping cherry blossom trees.
2 miles from Bethesda Row
While it is filled with housing, Kenwood Park has little in the way of eateries and retail businesses. Fast-food restaurants and Whole Foods are located along River Road, and residents can go to a nearby Giant for grocery shopping. However, less than 2 miles away is the Bethesda Row shopping center. This upscale mall includes dining options like The Salt Line Bethesda, a seafood restaurant, and Spanish Diner, a bistro serving authentic Spanish cuisine. Here, locals can shop at stores like Madewell, Reformation and Vuori or get a workout in at boutique fitness facilities.
Springtime cherry blossoms
D.C. gets a lot of credit for its cherry blossoms. But in the spring, Kenwood Park blooms. The neighborhood has become an impromptu stop for Cherry Blossom festivalgoers on their way to the nation’s capitol or those who wish to avoid crowds altogether. The trees’ soft pink hues line residential roads, creating a peaceful, idyllic environment.
2 miles to Downtown Bethesda, 8 miles to D.C.
Kenwood Park sits about 8 miles north of Washington, D.C., and 2 miles east of Downtown Bethesda. When it comes to working, Davis says, “There’s a mix between commuters to D.C. and Downtown Bethesda.” The neighborhood has numerous Metro stations within a 5-mile radius for travelers to D.C. who wish to avoid the traffic. When it’s time to fly the Ronald Reagan International Airport is about 13 miles south. And in case of emergency, Suburban Hospital is about 2 miles north.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
