Amid extensive revitalization, Bettendorf is the fastest-growing of the Quad Cities
Priding itself as “a Premier City,” Bettendorf is considered the fastest-growing city within the Quad Cities region. Noted for its Mississippi River location, parks, top-rated school district, and booming downtown area, nearly 40,000 residents call Bettendorf home. Newcomers will discover ongoing revitalization, notably in the downtown and waterfront areas. Expanded highways, new pedestrian bridges, waterfront parks and the new TBK Bank Sports Complex are changing the face of the city.
Trinity Medical Center is Bettendorf's largest employer, with more than 4,000 employees and four full-service hospitals in the region. Just off Interstate 80, TBK Bank Sports Complex is one of the city’s newest employers. It is an ultra-modern sports complex set on 75 acres with outdoor sports fields and indoor courts. Entertainment is as much a part of the complex as is training and competition, with a fitness center, a two-story arcade and a restaurant.

Homes offer two centuries of architecture
“Contrary to popular belief that Bettendorf is the most expensive place to live in the Quad Cities, property taxes are some of the lowest here, in terms of the percentage of the value of your home,” says Alex Skeen. “Once you’re here, you won’t pay a ton in property taxes.”
With a median price of $355,000, homes can be found in nearly every corner of the city. In Downtown Bettendorf, some homes overlook the river and can reach above $1 million. More modest choices can be found in such neighborhoods as the Edgewood District and newer homes are going up in Northeast Bettendorf.
Homes sell faster than the national average after about 36 days on the market. Neighborhoods in Bettendorf range from urban residential and suburban to more rural areas growing with new subdivisions. "Most will say that they love it here and that accessibility to the Quad Cities is hard to beat,” Skeen says.

Bettendorf stands out with 24 city parks
With 24 city parks and several nearby golf courses, Bettendorf residents enjoy plenty of outdoor destinations. Veterans Memorial Park provides reflection areas and memorials in tribute to veterans. The park also hosts the Bettendorf Community Band Summer Concert Series. Golfers can join Crow Valley Golf Club, which includes a high-end restaurant. Hikers can trek along Riverfront Trail, a 7-mile-long paved path that curves along the Mississippi River, providing waterfront views. Bettendorf’s Family Museum encourages kids to be curious with highly interactive exhibits and indoor and outdoor climbing areas. Bereskin Gallery and Art Academy sells works by in-residence artists and offers onsite classes.

Two highly rated school districts
The Bettendorf Community School District, with schools in central and west Bettendorf, receives an A-minus grade from Niche and is one of two school districts that serve the city. Pleasant Valley Community School District, with an A-plus Niche grade, serves 5,800 students, primarily in east Bettendorf schools.In nearby Rock Island, Augustana College was established in 1875 to support a growing Swedish population. Today, it is a 4-year college with 2,500 students.

Coffee shops and restaurants reflect entrepreneurial spirit
Several shopping centers are clustered around Interstate 74. Dining options in downtown center on State Street and Grant Street, with another batch of restaurants extending north of the city center along Kimberly Road.

Mild summers, cold winters and a moderate risk of flooding
The Mississippi River brings the risk of flooding each spring when winter snows melt upstream. Winter snows in Bettendorf are frequent, but the city's stated goal is to clear streets to "bare pavement" 24 hours after snow or ice stops falling. Through late 2024, the city had seen about 30 days of snow or ice in the preceding 12 months.
Rates of reported violent crimes and property crimes have consistently been below the state and national average since 2020 in Bettendorf.
Getting around Bettendorf
Bordered by Interstate 74, Interstate 80 and U.S. Route 67, Bettendorf residents can reach any of the Quad Cities in less than 20 minutes with moderate traffic. At their farthest points, Davenport, the westernmost city, is 10 miles from East Moline, the easternmost city. Bettendorf Transit provides paratransit on-demand and fixed-route bus service and connections to Davenport and Rock Island through Citibus and MetroLink. The city of Bettendorf, named on the Bicycle Friendly Communities list by the League of American Bicyclists, has 7 miles of bike lanes, 13 miles of recreational trails and 16 miles of separated trails. The long-awaited Gateway Bridge, a pedestrian bridge, allows walkers, runners and cyclists to cross Middle Road and reach the TBK Bank Sports Complex. The Quad Cities International Airport is 6 miles south for air travel.
A casino, a convention center and The Landing Ice Rink
The Isle Casino Hotel and the Waterfront Convention Center are ideal locations for conferences, wedding receptions, or weekend gaming or gambling. Together, they offer two restaurants and a 1,500-person event space that has hosted talents such as Hawaiian singer Shawn Pimental and country music singer John Morgan.
Area events have a new home at The Landing, a community aquatic facility and ice rink. The first phase, The Landing Ice Rink, opened in mid-December 2024. The 11,000-square-foot space features a massive indoor community center with fireplaces, concessions, a bar and a floor-to-ceiling window overlooking the skaters. The Landing’s Aquatic Facility is expected to open in May 2025.
The Landing Ice Rink is a brand new winter attraction that already a Bettendorf favorite.
More urban Downtown Bettendorf is centered around the Isle Casino, a major entertainment draw.
