Pratt City's community is steeped in Birmingham's industrial history, from mining to manufacturing. For Pratt City's suburb of South Pratt, residents have seen the closing of the surrounding mines and the expansion of Ensley's manufacturing from the early 20th century to the years after the Second World War. Today, residents live in the same pre-war bungalows and post-war ranch-style homes that housed miners and plant workers. Many residents work in the bordering manufacturing and water treatment plants. South Pratt is within 5 miles of restaurants, public parks and major roadways leading to Downtown Birmingham.
