Small suburb amid artsy Birmingham communities
Wahouma is a small neighborhood in East Lake. This community started with the dream of an industrious man named Robert Jemison, Sr. In 1886, he and a couple of business partners started the East Lake Land Company. Workers would settle in the suburbs of East Lake and South Eastlake and commute to work. Over the years, artists have started to contribute an exciting flare to the neighborhood. "It's always had kind of an artistic flair, going back 20 years," says Justin Mundie, a Realtor with eXp Realty. "There's an old movie theater that's been converted into a sort of avant-garde arts center." Residents are within a few miles of lush parks, local restaurants and Downtown Birmingham.
