Historic rolling farmland
Located along the Great Appalachian Valley, Blairstown Township is a small rural community of around 6,000 residents. The first Appalachian Trail Community in New Jersey, the township features acres of undeveloped farmland amid its rolling hills. “It’s just a really nice quality of life, to be honest,” says Richard Tillman, Broker with RE/MAX Town & Valley and longtime resident of the area. “It’s a rural neighborhood that still offers access to amenities and even New York City.” With scenic, pastoral beauty and urban conveniences still nearby, Blairstown Township is a commuter-friendly slice of New Jersey country that's about 65 miles from New York City.
Traditional styles surrounded by greenery
Homes in the township reflect the area’s old-school atmosphere, with Colonial Revivals, ranch styles and Cape Cods throughout. Many of the area’s homes were built from the late 1800s to the early 1900s and feature careful renovations. In addition to traditional styles, there are also a number of large custom estates – typically situated on at least several acres of land. Prices in Blairstown range from $290,000 to $650,000 – though custom estates can range from $700,000 to around $1 million, depending on size and acreage.
Volunteering through North Warren High
Students can begin at Blairstown Elementary, which serves kindergarten through sixth grade and earns a B-minus from Niche. North Warren Regional High also receives a B-minus and covers seventh through 12th grades. North Warren High's community program fosters a love for giving back as students accumulate hundreds of volunteer hours a year. Parents who prefer private education can send their children to Blairstown Academy, a renowned co-ed boarding school that earns an A-plus.
Commuting to NYC, Newark on I-80
Commuters have easy access to Interstate 80, which allows for straightforward commutes New York City or Newark. The latter’s airport is just over 60 miles from the neighborhood, while Hackettstown is a common destination for residents in the community. Though traffic is less of an issue than in some of the township’s neighbors, public transportation is limited to nearby shuttle services.
Blairstown Diner, Dale's Market
“Blairstown is just a really charming area, and it has a distinct personality even among the other rural townships nearby,” says Thomasina Cerciello, real estate agent with EXIT Realty and longtime resident of Blairstown Township. “You can especially see that in the shops and restaurants in our little downtown area.” Blairstown Diner was featured in the original "Friday the 13th" film – in fact, several spots throughout the township and surrounding nature are featured in the film. The restaurant offers fans the choice between Jason’s Favorite chicken sandwich or the Slasher Burger. Dale’s Market has an extensive menu full of sandwiches, while nearby Buckhill Brewery is a popular spot for drinks with friends. Acme and Rite Aid are the go-to spots for groceries and everyday essentials, though residents can also pick up fresh produce and dairy at any of the local farmstands.
Hiking on the Paulinskill Trail
Just off Lambert Road, Sycamore Park features a fenced-in playground with swings, climbing walls and rope bridges. Footbridge Park allows for scenic walks along its paths or a family picnic, while also serving as home for the Blairstown Fall Festival – an annual October celebration known for the bed race, where competitors create four-wheeled race cars out of beds. Locals also have access to nearby Paulinskill Trail, which offers over 27 miles of trail to hike. Nearby, the Land of Make Believe is an amusement park that offers rides and a spray park for family outings.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
