Cul-de-sacs, lakes and preserved forests

Bloomingdale is a New Jersey suburb where residential streets and cul-de-sacs weave through a collection of lakes and preserved forests. With access to major thoroughfares like the Jersey Turnpike, the community attracts homebuyers looking to stay close to the Big Apple while embracing scenic living among some of Passaic County’s biggest natural attractions. “You have beautiful tree-lined residential streets and family businesses along Main Street, but you can also get on 287 from pretty much anywhere in town,” says Jennifer Ellis, Broker Associate for Coldwell Banker Realty, and a local resident who’s been selling homes in the area for over 20 years.

Norvin Green State Forest, Bogue Pond Park

Norvin Green State Forest borders Bloomindale’s north end with nearly 5,000 acres of woodlands that offer opportunities for bird and wildlife watching. The park is a popular hiking spot with a system of rugged trails that lead to scenic overlooks of the natural landscape and of the New York skyline. “You can walk out your backdoor, go for a quick walk, and you’re in the Norvin Green trail system,” says Ellis. The town is also highlighted by its 14 lakes that provide ample opportunities for kayaking and fishing. Residents can visit Mayor Dunleavy Memorial Park, which features a mile-long hiking trail weaving through 44 areas of dense forest. The park is dog-friendly with two off-leash areas. Just down the street, Bogue Pond Park also has a playground and a basketball court.

Sloan Park is a popular destination for community events throughout the year. Sloan Park Festival is a summer event with family-friendly games, food vendors and local merchants, and Holiday Stroll takes place in December with carriage rides, Victorian carolers and free hot chocolate. There’s also the town’s Celebration Day, a late September event at Delazier Field featuring live music, craft vendors and food trucks. Aside from the borough’s major events, there are also more frequent social outings like tea parties at the public library, dueling piano shows at the Glen Wild Lake Clubhouse and craft nights at the Bloomingdale Senior Center. “There’s so much to do if you’re paying attention and taking advantage of it,” says Ellis.
