A desirable suburb steps from Old Town Bluffton
In Bluffton Park, rocking chairs adorn front porches, sidewalks line streets and ducks patrol the community's four small lakes. Its residents spend a lot of time outside, whether at the community pool, by the lakes or walking their dogs on the sidewalks. "Bluffton Park is a little anomaly," says local broker Maria Skrip of RE/MAX Dream. She's sold homes with her husband, Chris Skrip, for over a decade. "It's a hidden little gem. You've got Charleston-looking homes with cute vinyl siding. Plus, the neighbors are really cool." Folks tend to stick together in Bluffton Park. "They take care of one another in there," Skrip says. "When Hurricane Matthew came through, they had hurricane parties. They had a cookout when the power went out so all the food wouldn't go bad." Its proximity to the charm of Old Town Bluffton adds to its appeal. "So many people take their golf carts to Old Town Bluffton," Skrip says. "You're within easy walking or biking distance to all that's there."
Charleston-inspired homes sit behind sidewalk-lined streets
Sidewalks run in front of nearly every home in Bluffton Park, sprinkled with leaves from mature trees. Small cement paths connect porches from the sidewalk, so residents often wave to passing strollers from Adirondacks or rocking chairs. A few homes have Charleston-inspired double-decker porches with room for more outdoor furniture. Each contemporary colonial, cottage and Lowcountry style home was built in the early 21st century on a small lot just under a quarter-acre. A few white-picket fences enclose manicured front lawns, and taller privacy fences close off backyards. Residents tend to their yards in Bluffton Park, and many folks have mulch gardens, hanging plants and trimmed shrubbery. Back alleyways provide access to two-car garages and space to stow trash bins. Cottages cost between $330,000 and $400,000, while colonial and Lowcountry homes list from $400,000 to $500,000. The area's few townhomes typically cost between $330,000 and $400,000. "It's more affordable than many communities in the area," Skrip says. "In another life, I would choose to live here."
Some of the homes in Bluffton Park have large double-decker front porces.
